MFBCS Seniors Support

MFBCS’ Seniors Support Services (SSS) is a program that partners senior clients with eager volunteers who will assist them in the following areas:

1. Social visitations

2. Purchasing groceries for the seniors in their care

3. Accompanying seniors to any medical appointments

4. Accompanying seniors to activities once a week - (these activities may include going to the mosque for prayers or to the park or community centre

5. Arranging social and fun events for seniors once a quarter.

In addition, MFBCS will be providing wheelchairs and walking sticks to seniors for whom need is especially dire.

Rationale/Need for the Services

The need for these services was evaluated through observations made by ASPIRE caseworkers who noted that many of their senior clients were unable to properly engage in community activities due to restraints on their movement and health.

Goals/Objectives

- The primary goal of SSS is to allow seniors the necessary resources to be able to better participate in their community and live a happy, healthy fulfilling lifestyle..

- Assisting seniors in day-to-day tasks, especially weekly grocery shopping, accompaniment to medical appointments and community events

· Fostering stronger relationships between youth and seniors in the community

· Reducing feelings of isolation or loneliness among seniors
