You know your mission matters. You know the difference your organization makes. But explaining that difference in a way that inspires people to give?

Not always easy.

That’s why we created Clarify Your Message: A StoryBrand Workshop for Nonprofit Leaders.

Over four weeks, you’ll work with our StoryBrand guides to bring clarity to your nonprofit’s message.

Here’s what you’ll walk away with:

👉🏼A clearer message. Explain what your nonprofit does, why it matters, and how people can help.

👉🏻A compelling story. Position your donors as an essential part of the change you’re creating.

👉🏾Words you can use. Communicate with greater confidence across your website, fundraising appeals, emails, and conversations.

👉🏼A framework you can return to. Stop starting from scratch every time you need to communicate your mission.

When your message is clear, it’s easier for people to understand your mission, connect with your work, and take action.

Four weeks. A clearer message. More confident fundraising.

Our next workshop begins Nov. 5, with sessions on Nov. 12, 19, and 26.

Spaces are limited. Apply at Kaci.io. We’d love to work with you!

Friends, we’ve created something special for you:

A four-session StoryBrand workshop created specifically for nonprofit leaders.

You know your organization inside and out. You know the programs, the people, the need and the impact. But sometimes being this close to the work makes it harder to explain it simply.

And when your message isn’t clear, donors have to work too hard to understand:

👉🏻What do you actually do?
👉🏼Why does it matter?
👉🏾And where do I fit?

Clarify Your Message is designed to help you change that.

Over four virtual sessions, we’ll use the StoryBrand framework to help you step outside your organization, see your message through your donor’s eyes, and find clearer language for the work you already know matters.

The goal?
A message people can understand.
A story they can connect with.
And words you can use across your fundraising and communications.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Kaci!

Today, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the people who make this work meaningful.

We’re grateful for the nonprofit leaders who show up every day, often carrying more than anyone sees, because you know the difference your organizations can make.

We’re grateful for the donors who give generously, the volunteers who offer their time, and the communities that come together around a shared mission.

And we’re especially grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside organizations doing such important work.

Fundraising is about so much more than raising money. It’s about people, relationships, generosity, and the world that becomes possible when we work together.

From our team to yours:

Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡

We love our international team here at Kaci.

Meet Carien van Zyl, Kaci’s Administration Manager, who keeps us humming all the way from South Africa.

Not only does Carien bring her expertise in administration, HR and finance, she also brings warmth, energy and a positive attitude.

Her desire to help people has been a thread throughout her career, and it’s part of what drew her toward working with nonprofit organizations and the people behind them.

At Kaci, Carien helps keep the details organized and the wheels turning behind the scenes, so the rest of our team can stay focused on helping nonprofits do more of what matters.

FUN FACTS: Carien is based in KwaZulu-Natal, near Durban, on South Africa's beautiful east coast. Besides being an administrative wiz, Carien is also a Certified Scuba Diver.

Her favorite place to dive? Sodwana Bay.

Say hello to Carien!

We’re so glad she’s part of our small-but-mighty team.

We recently sent Evan Strain, our Marketing Manager, to a fundraising conference in Texas …

And all he did was:

👉🏻Attend the NIO Summit

👉🏼Ride a mechanical bull at Billy Bob’s

👉🏾Compete in Fundraising Jeopardy

👉🏼Connect with some very smart fundraising people

👉🏻Eat the required amount of Texas brisket

And brought home THIS ONE IDEA  we think every nonprofit should be thinking about:

What if your next donor isn’t a new donor?

We spend a lot of energy trying to find new people who will care about our mission.

New audiences. New leads. New donors.

And yes, finding new donors matters.

But one of Evan’s biggest takeaways from the Nonprofit Innovation & Optimization Summit was a reminder that there may be beautiful opportunity much closer to home:

The people who already chose to give.

Are we caring for them well?
Are we continuing the relationship after the donation?
Are we reaching out to donors who haven’t given in a while, not simply to ask again, but to reconnect them with the work they once cared enough about to support?

Because fundraising isn’t only about acquisition. You know what we say here at Kaci:

Fundraising is about relationship.

And sometimes growth starts not by finding more people, but by taking better care of the people already with us.

Thanks to the NextAfter Institute for a great few days of learning, conversations and a little Texas-sized fun.

And Evan? We hope you’re already studying for next year’s Fundraising Jeopardy.

Today, we listen.
We listen to the stories of Survivors.
We remember the children who never came home.
We honour their families and communities.

Sept. 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, a day to honour Survivors and the children who never returned home, and recognize the ongoing impact of the residential school system on First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

For those of us who work in the nonprofit sector, listening is part of our work.
Not speaking for.
Not rushing to solutions.
Listening. Learning. Remembering.

And then allowing what we learn to shape how we show up, in our organizations, our communities, and our relationships.

Today, we encourage you to make space for Indigenous voices and stories, and support Indigenous-led organizations doing this work every day.

A few suggestions for concrete ways to listen:

👉🏼Read the TRC calls to action and pick one or two to personally act on.

👉🏼Read the Special Interlocutors Obligations.

👉🏼Look at a map and find the Residential school closest to you.

A few more places to listen:

👉🏼The United Church archives

👉🏼The UBC IRS History and Dialogue Centre

👉🏼The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.

On some of these sites you can literally listen as Survivors share their stories.

Today, we listen and remember.

You don’t need more heart.
Most nonprofit leaders we work with care deeply about their mission.
They believe in the work. They want to make a difference. They work hard.
But hard work and heart need to align with your plan to move things forward.
When we come alongside nonprofit leaders, these are the 3 things we see they need most:
CLARITY: a message your donors understand.

TRUST: relationships built over time through consistency that lead to meaningful gifts

SYSTEM: a repeatable plan that keeps fundraising moving.
We believe fundraising needs to be clear, relational and repeatable.
You already have the heart.
Let’s build the plan.

09/26/2026

REAL TALK. One of the unexpected benefits of having a fundraising plan is getting your weekends and evenings back.

This is not the reason people hire us, and it’s not in a proposal. But this is what we hear often, once an organization is six months into running a plan.

The work stopped leaking.

Here’s what we mean: when there’s no plan, fundraising happens in the margins of your life. You answer the donor email at 9:47 on a Sunday because there was never a point in your workday that clearly belonged to it. So, you carry it along and it finds a place on the weekend.

Or you think about the year-end appeal in the car.

Or you wake up at 4am doing mental math on the funding gap.

When the work doesn’t get scheduled, it doesn’t end. Instead, it floats and lands wherever there’s space, which is usually your personal life.

When there’s a plan, the fall campaign has its weeks. The major donor conversations have been scheduled. Stewardship has its rhythm. You know what this week is for and, just as usefully, you know what it is not for. The donor you’re meeting in November does not need your attention tonight. That relationship has a place on the calendar.

So, you can close the laptop. You can go to your kid’s game and be fully present.

Yes, the work is still demanding. But now it has edges.

Most of the leaders we work with are not short on commitment. In fact, it’s usually the opposite. What they most often need is structure.

When you have a fundraising plan, it protects both the mission and your life.

We want you in this good work for the long haul.

Have a good weekend!
