On Fagun 30 2076 (March 13th 2020), Meenu's beloved thulo baa (uncle) and thulo maa (aunt) celebrated their third Janko ceremony (the milestone celebration in the Newari community). She is always passionate about investing in education as she believes that Education is the only tool which brings all different man-kinds (regardless of their castes, colors, sizes, nationalities, and their looks) to
the same plate-form to socialize and net working together which makes them feel equal, so education brings equality among all human beings from around the world. Thus, she decided to establish two awards in Kanya Mandir High School on the auspicious occasion of this ceremony. Meenu graduated from this high school, she wanted to pay some dues back to this school, and this is the best time to do so. After a quick meeting with the head master and the school management team on 22nd Falgun 2076, she brought the idea of two awards as,
1. Shree Narayan Pd/Meri Baba Rajbhandari Award (the best student of the year), 2. Shree Meenu Rajbhandari Dahal Award (the best teacher of the year)
A non-depreciable fund (akashyakosh) has been created under the name of Kanya Mandir High School and the awards will be distributed from the interest earned from that fund. A joint committee comprised of the Rajbhandari family members and high school teachers will handle the distribution of the awards. The amount of each award is NRS 15, 000. These awards have numerous goals:
1. To honour Meenu's uncle and aunty by awarding the student in their names as a token of appreciation to them for what they have done for her.
2. To encourage and give incentive to enthusiastic teacher and young student to work hard to achieve their goals
3. To maintain a link with our heritage and youth in the years to come.
4. This akashyakosh will be eventually turned into a foundation in the future, which will involve help from Meenu’s own children Aakriti and Ashin, which secures a connection to Nepal and their roots. They will run the future foundation as the patrons. It likely that the children of non-resident Nepalese do not seem to have a link with their relatives or culture in Nepal after their parents' demise; an effort like this is aimed at maintaining a link with their heritage.
