A summary of the client services and community development:
Growing Opportunities (referred to as “GO”) supports at risk pregnant women in creating healthy lifestyles for themselves and their babies. Since 1996, GO has provided services to at-risk pregnant women with nutritional supplements, counseling, education, resources and connected them to community services. A home visitation service is de
livered by program staff, which includes a Nurse, Support Worker and Life Skills Coach, with access to a Nutritionist. Postnatal, a client who is breastfeeding is eligible to receive support until the babe is 9 months old. Service area includes Strathmore, Wheatland County, and the Drumheller area.
5 for Life - Early Childhood Development is an initiative to identify the physical, social, emotional, language and communication needs of young children in the Wheatland County including Strathmore. 5 for Life Committee was established to build community capacity, provide programming and knowledge to support early childhood development. Bridging the Gap (known as "BTG") engages seniors 55 years and older, to volunteer their life skills, knowledge and experience back into the community; with program development that supports social participation and inclusion of seniors. Servicing the Wheatland County including Strathmore. Post Partum Support Group provides moms and babes with a two 8-week evidence based program per year. A partnership with Rural Calgary East Postpartum Support Group. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Outreach Services provides supports to individuals, caregivers and families on this lifelong disability. The service area covers the communities of Three Hills, Drumheller, Hanna, Stettler, Castor, Coronation, and Consort. Car Seats for Kids is an ongoing resource that provides car seats to families who are in need in Strathmore and Wheatland County by referral only. Workshops are organized by a partnership annually for the community based on topics related to ″A Community Approach to Healthy Children.” In the past training has related to post partum depression, trauma, attachment, brain development, impact of separation and divorce, and the impact of technology.
