Brentwood’s Learn and Play

Brentwood’s Learn and Play Brentwood’s Learn and Play is a non profit organization that provides before & after care to students Yet introduce new areas of interest. Jane Geddes.

Brentwood's Learn and Play believes that every child maters and when given the opportunity to explore, discover and play they will excel. Our rooms are set up in a way where students can grow through play and exploration. Staff are there to guide and celebrate their growth, exploration and discovery in a positive and encouraging way. We want the kids to love learning so strive to provide an engagi

ng, changing and evolving program that meets the kids needs. The love and compassion you will receive throughout the year will make you feel like you are part of a family. Brentwood's Learn and Play Before and After room is ran by Ms. She comes to us with over 10 years experience. Her patience and calm nature is felt the minute you walk in the room. Don't let that fool you though, the kids find her to be quite funny. She always seems to know what type of role model they need at every given moment and is exactly that. Our program runs from 6:30 am - 6 pm Monday to Friday including PD, FLEX and Teacher Convention week. We are closed for Easter and Christmas break. In Brentwood's Learn and Play Playschool you will find Ms. Sam Woodley. She is often known for her never ending empathy, love and care. The Playschool will be following the Pocket of Playschool curriculum with bits and pieces of the Flight curriculum. Both are very hands on. Sam grew up in Strathmore and attended Brentwood as a student, later to return as an educational assistant in Kindergarten and grade 1. Throughout her 4 years with the school she worked with a large variety of needs from speech, OT and PT to ADHD and Autism. Three years ago she began the process to open the Before and After school program. She wanted to provide a safe, engaging program that students were excited about and parents trusted. This year with the help of her team she has expanded to include Playschool for 3 year old's and 4 year old's and we could not be more excited. You will also find Ms. Sam Woodley in the office. She makes up our administration team when she is not busy teaching. All registrations, parent email, calls and text's go through her. If you have any questions or concerns she is your person, she is always happy to listen or answer any questions you may have.

🌞 What a fantastic afternoon spent outside with the OSC kids and neighborhood friends! We set up a fun pop-up mud kitchen and let creativity run wild with some crafting projects. The laughter and joy was contagious. The last few kids earned a well-deserved cold treat. It was a perfect way to cool down and celebrate a day full of fun in the sun. Here's to more sunny days like this!

Nature as the Third Teacher: A Day of Exploration and Wonder!
We had an absolutely beautiful day taking our learning outside, getting a little messy, and letting curiosity lead the way! When children are given the time and space to connect with the natural world and each other, the learning opportunities are endless.
Here’s a peek into our day of discovery:
Outdoor Studio & Mud Kitchen: From mixing up natural "recipes" with kitchen tools to painting on the pavement in the sunshine, the children's imaginative play and sensory exploration were in full swing.
Risky Play & Gross Motor Fun: Testing balance, navigating the climbing structures, and building with long, adventurous sticks allowed the children to challenge themselves in meaningful, child-led ways.
Cozy Indoor & Loose Parts: After our outdoor adventures, the children transitioned inside to collaborate on building projects, problem-solve with loose parts, and engage in meaningful roleplay.
Watching these young minds collaborate, negotiate, and explore with such joy is a beautiful reminder of why child-led, play-based learning is so important.

Welcome to Our Jurassic Park!
We had an absolute blast exploring and learning through play today in our classroom! Our little paleontologists and explorers dove right into an immersive, nature-inspired environment, discovering that the natural world truly is our greatest teacher.
Here’s a peek into the children's imaginative investigations:
Sensory Exploration & Paleontology: The children uncovered dinosaur bones and artifacts hidden in the sand, practicing careful observation, sorting, and critical thinking with magnifying glasses and sorting trays.
Dramatic Play & Collaboration: Our camping tent became a hub for storytelling and social cooperation! The children worked together to set up "camp," used binoculars to spot wildlife, and even role-played cooking a pretend campfire meal.
Fine Motor Fun: From using the classic Operation game to test our steady hands, to tracking gravity and motion with our beautiful rainbow marble tree, the children were deeply engaged in hands-on, child-led discovery.
It is so wonderful to see these young minds connecting with the earth, each other, and their natural curiosity through these hands-on provocation stations!

April 20th to 24th

This week has been vibrant, featuring colorful painting activities with fruits and vegetables that encourage creativity and sensory exploration. The children have also enjoyed delightful food-tasting experiences, where they sampled a variety of flavors and textures, broadening their palate and understanding of nutrition. Alongside these activities, there has been steady advancement in our understanding of the alphabet and numbers, with interactive games and songs that make learning both fun and effective. The preschoolers have shown remarkable progress and take pride in their achievements, celebrating each new letter learned and every number mastered.

With the arrival of spring, bringing sunshine and fresh air, we've taken much of our learning outdoors, integrating nature into our daily curriculum. As we explore the vibrant environment around us, we’ve discovered bugs, observed their intricate details under magnifying glasses, and learned about their crucial role in nurturing our gardens and food production. This hands-on approach has sparked a newfound interest in biology and ecology among the children. It’s been a lively week brimming with curiosity, exploration, and a growing appreciation for the natural world.
