OUR STORY
The Stratford Area Watershed Improvement Group (SAWIG) is a grassroots non-profit environmental organization incorporated in 2009 by a group of community members concerned with the health and sustainability of the Stratford area watershed. the process began with regularly held meetings among interested residents: farmers, landowners, government representatives, and local organizations an
d businesses. The result of these meetings was a list of concerns and goals to be addressed by the new watershed group. Today SAWIG staff, directors, and volunteers continue to dedicate their time and resources to improving and protecting the local environment in Stratford and the surrounding areas of Hazelbrook, Pownal, and Alexandra. Thousands of staff and volunteer hours go into carrying out successful projects each year, made possible entirely through grants and donations. SAWIG strives to be a voice for the environment through public communication, advocating for changes in policy and practice, and through it's many hands on projects and initiatives.
