To help get children and families into the holiday spirit, the Falstaff Family Centre (FFC) is inviting the community to its annual Cookies & Carols event Saturday, December 20.

For the first time, the presentation will be offered twice, with an afternoon event starting at 3:30 p.m. and remounted that same evening at 6:30 p.m. (doors open 30 minutes prior)

Once again, the event will be hosted by Michael Fox, with carols, music and readings by Loreena McKennitt, as well as Gemini Award-winning actor Cedric Smith, who will narrate a portion of A Child’s Christmas in Wales, by Dylan Thomas. Santa Claus himself will appear at 4:15 and 7:15 p.m. and there will be lots of carol singing in between with everyone invited to join in. Cookies and beverages will also be on offer.

“This is a cherished tradition we love hosting for the community,” says McKennitt, owner and director of the FFC. “We look forward to seeing people again in person and enjoying the spirit of the season.”

The event is free but donations will be gratefully accepted for Wellspring Stratford.

The FFC has been hosting the Cookies & Carols event on and off, as time and circumstances have allowed, since McKennitt bought the former school in 2000.

Join us this evening, for the last in the series of Truth and Reconciliation events.

The National Film Board () documentary “Birth of a Family” will be featured at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. The film highlights the reunification of four siblings Betty Ann, Esther, Rosalie, and Ben who were amongst the 20,000 Indigenous Canadian children taken from their families between 1955 and 1985, to be either adopted into white families or live in foster care.

A post screening story will be offered by knowledge carrier Christin Dennis () Gzhiiquot or Fast Moving Cloud (Aamjiwnaang First Nation), himself a Sixties Scoop Survivor.

A special thanks to The Stratford Perth Community Foundation () for their generous support of programming this week, and today.
