It’s Mental Health Awareness Week at Steer Friends! 💚

This week we had a very special visitor — Rusty! 🐰

Our members spent some time with Rusty while learning about the positive impact animals can have on our mental health. Lots of smiles, cuddles, and one very popular little bunny!

🦎 Adventure was calling, and we answered! Our very first weekly trip to Reptilia Zoo & Education Centre🐊🐠🌴 was filled with excitement, learning, and lots of smiles. These community experiences mean so much to our members, and we’re so grateful that, thanks to the incredible support of the Scoring Goals for the Community Charity Hockey Game, we’re able to make outings like this possible. 💚

Another way we support our members and families. 🦷

Throughout the year, we partner with different community professionals who come to Steer Friends, making it easier for our members to access additional supports in a familiar environment.

It’s one less thing for families to fit into an already busy schedule and one more way we’re trying to make life a little easier.

We love working alongside incredible professionals who help support our community. 💛

A day like this starts long before we arrive.

Transportation has to be coordinated. Families adjust their routines. Medications, G-tube feeds, personal care, staffing, and volunteers all come together so our members can spend the day doing what matters most… experiencing their community.

These opportunities take a village, and we’re so grateful for ours. 💛

When it feels like 42°C outside, an ice cream run just makes sense. 🍦☀️

We took the opportunity to cool down with a quick trip to McDonald’s, and our members were all smiles. Sometimes the simplest moments are the sweetest. 💛

Today marked our very first visit to Holland Bloorview for our summer Snoezelen and therapeutic pool program. 💛

For the next eight weeks, our members will have the opportunity to explore a calming sensory environment before enjoying time in therapeutic pool.

These experiences simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support we received through the Scoring Goals ForThe Community Community Hockey Game fundraiser in March.

Thank you to everyone who donated, sponsored, volunteered, and attended. Because of you, our members are experiencing new opportunities, new environments, and moments that truly enrich their lives.

We can’t wait to see what the next seven weeks bring! ✨
