Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum Our mission is to collect, preserve and present our artifacts and stories for everyone. The Tea House is run by volunteers and is a fundraiser for the Museum.

What type of candle is pictured here?

This was the question we posed yesterday. Thank you to everyone who played along and shared their guesses!

*The answer: a Courting (Father's) Candle!*

Long ago, when a young man came calling to court a family's daughter, the father would place the candle on a higher rung of the holder if he approved of the suitor.

This particular candle is hand-forged on the Pioneer Museum grounds and is available for purchase in the Mercantile!

The Museum and Mercantile are open Monday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Harvest Fest: Hands That Built the Harvest - September 19, 2026

We are looking for demonstrators, makers, growers, crafters, and old-skill keepers to help bring this year’s Harvest Fest to life at the Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum.

Do you keep bees? Spin wool? Weave? Make rope? Work with leather? Preserve food? Quilt? Grow heritage seeds? Know your way around old tools, farm skills, or traditional crafts?

We would love to hear from you.

Harvest Fest is all about celebrating the hands, skills, stories, and everyday work that helped build our communities — from field to table, fibre to cloth, bee to honey, and everything in between.

If you or someone you know would be interested in demonstrating, displaying, or sharing a heritage skill at Harvest Fest, please send us a message.
