Little Dory is the cutest tiny old girl ever! You can’t help but smother her face in kisses.

Our farrier will be out Sept 18, and Dory is on the schedule for her first trim with Mckenna.

This has been a long time coming. Cinnamon is definitely way more fearful than any of the others (including Nienna!). But tons and tons of pressure and release, and Cinnamon officially got a halter and lead, and started learning how to lead (only started!)…she took her deworming like a champ!! Touching? Absolutely terrifying. Putting dewormer in her mouth? Unfazed.

We will continue working with her over the next little bit, and hope to have her vetted at the same time as Nienna gets her extractions, if she’s ready.

Baby steps …. But they’re steps in the right direction! 🩷

Special thanks to my girls who have effortlessly taken over things I’d typically do, and have been doing an amazing job with all the ponies! 🄰

First load of hay came today! Nothing is more exciting in the year , than hay days and knowing we’ll be set for winter! Our hay supplier can only deliver a small amount at a time - so, there will be more loads to come, but this is a start!

A Little Herd Update šŸ¤

We wanted to pop on with a little update from around the rescue!

Our sweet senior girl Dory is doing amazing. 🄹 She’s settling in more every day and has slowly started allowing herself to wander closer and closer to the other ponies. We’re letting her take everything at her own pace, and it’s so nice to see her becoming more comfortable and curious about her new little herd. šŸ¤

Nienna will also be getting booked for her dental surgery as soon as possible. Thanks to all of you, we have almost raised half of the funds needed for her procedure! Her teeth desperately need this care, especially going into winter, so we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated and helped us get this far.

And on a more personal note, you may see a little less of us over the coming months.

There may be fewer day to day updates, less fundraising, and slower response times to messages and comments. We will, of course, continue sharing whenever we can, especially the big updates about the animals you all love and follow.

For the next little while, I need to put more time and energy into taking care of some personal health matters. That means I’ll be leaning much more heavily on our incredible friends, family, and community volunteers to help keep things running behind the scenes.

The animals will continue receiving the same care they always have. Their feed, medications, farrier care, veterinary care and daily needs don’t stop, and neither does our commitment to them. We may just be a little quieter while doing it.

Sometimes rescue means recognizing when you need to accept a little help yourself, too. šŸ¤

Thank you for continuing to love these animals, support our little rescue, and give us some grace if replies take a little longer or our page is quieter than usual.

We’re still here. The ponies are still spoiled. And the work continues. šŸ“šŸ¤

šŸ–¤ $5 FRIDAY FOR NIENNA šŸ–¤

This $5 Friday is for Nienna’s much needed dental surgery and extractions. šŸ¦·ā¤ļø

Nienna is also an important reminder of why routine dental care matters so much, especially for senior horses. Dental problems don’t happen overnight. When teeth aren’t regularly checked and maintained, issues can progress until eating becomes painful, teeth are damaged beyond saving, and extractions become necessary.

For seniors, good teeth can be the difference between maintaining weight through winter and struggling to get enough nutrition.

We can’t change the dental care Nienna received before coming to us, but we can make sure she gets what she needs now.

🦷 Dental Surgery Goal: $1,400
ā¤ļø Raised: $630

Even $5 gets us closer. ā¤ļø

🩷🩷rest easy beautiful Abbs

In loving memory of Abbigale ā¤ļø

Abbigale was in her late 20s when she arrived at the rescue after being used as a bucking pony for entertainment. At first, she wouldn’t let anyone near her. Then, her rescuers discovered something completely unexpected: Abbigale was pregnant.

When her foal arrived, Abbigale immediately became a calm, attentive and fiercely protective mom. But she didn’t stop with her own baby.

As more foals were born at the rescue, Abbigale started looking after them, too. She followed the babies around, keeping watch over the whole group.

In June, Abbigale's rescue announced that the loving "mama and grandma of all babies" passed away. Despite her traumatic past, she gave so many new foals a promising start in life.

THE COST OF RESCUE.

We talk a lot about the happy endings.

The adoptions. The transformations. The full bellies. The horses learning to trust again. The seniors finally knowing what it feels like to be safe.

But there’s another side of rescue that isn’t nearly as pretty.

The bills.

And right now, in an economy that is hard on everyone, it’s becoming harder and harder for rescues too.

Our recent vet day for Nienna, Toffee, Cookie & Dory cost us over $1,700. We haven’t even done Cinnamon yet.

$1,700 in one day.

Exams. Vaccines. Deworming. Dentals. The things that aren’t optional when you take responsibility for an animal who has nowhere else to go.

But wait… there’s more.

During Nienna’s dental, we discovered that her teeth are absolutely horrific. Far worse than we could have anticipated.

She now needs dental surgery, and the high end of that estimate is almost another $1,400.

We’ll be making a separate update for Nienna and sharing photos of her teeth, because sometimes people need to see what years without proper care actually looks like.

It’s awful.

And unfortunately, we can’t put this one off.

Nienna needs this surgery as soon as possible. Winter is coming, and for an older horse, the ability to properly eat and maintain weight can quite literally be the difference between making it through winter comfortably or not.

So here we are again, asking for help.

Not because we enjoy fundraising.
Not because there isn’t somewhere else that every single one of your dollars could go right now.

But because rescue costs money.

And the animals don’t know that groceries cost more. They don’t know that hay costs more. They don’t know that veterinary care costs more. They don’t know that everyone is stretched thinner than they were a few years ago.

They just know they hurt.
They need help.

And when we say yes to them, we are promising to see that care through.

Right now, we need to raise $1,400 toward Nienna’s dental surgery.

If you can donate $5, $10, $20, it matters.

If you can’t donate, please share this post. We genuinely understand that money is tight. Sharing costs nothing, and sometimes it puts our post in front of the one person who is able to help.

Rescue has never been cheap.

Nienna deserves to go into winter able to eat comfortably and maintain her weight.

We’re going to make sure she gets there. ā¤ļø
