🐶 DOGGIE YARD SALE! We’re Drowning in Dog Stuff!

No, seriously.

After years of rescuing hundreds of dogs, we’ve accumulated what can only be described as an astronomical amount of dog supplies. We have shelves of it. Boxes of it. Piles of it. We keep finding things we forgot we even had!

While we’d love to keep every toy, leash, harness, bed, bowl, sweater and gadget, the reality is we simply can’t use it all. We’d much rather see these items go home with dogs who will actually enjoy them than continue taking over every inch of our storage space.

So we’re opening the doors and inviting you to our very first Doggie Yard Sale!

🐾 Shop hundreds of new and gently used dog items at bargain prices.
🐾 Find something your pup will love.
🐾 Feel good knowing every dollar raised goes directly toward helping the senior dogs in our care.

Bring a friend, tell your fellow dog lovers, and come hunt for some amazing deals!

And please… help us make enough room that we can actually see the walls in our storage area again. 😅🐶

Meet Pierre: Tiny Dog. Huge Opinions.

At 6 years old, Pierre may be small, but nobody has bothered telling him that.

He’s convinced he’s at least 100 pounds, head of security, and personally responsible for keeping his favourite human safe.

Pierre loves walks, adores car rides, and believes spoiling him should be your full-time hobby. Once he decides you’re his person, he’ll happily follow you from room to room, sleep beside you every night, and keep a watchful eye on your every move. (Seriously… the staring can get a little creepy. 😂)

His foster says Pierre became her emotional rock, and it’s easy to see why. He forms incredibly deep bonds with his people and loves them with his whole heart.

Now for the fine print…

Pierre is looking for a home where he can be the only pet. Other dogs are simply not on his guest list, and he’s much happier when he doesn’t have to share his humans.

He’s also not the type to enjoy strangers rushing up to say hello. Pierre likes to make introductions on his schedule. Give him space, let him come to you, and you’ll earn his trust. Push the issue, and he’ll happily remind you that he takes his security job very seriously.

Pierre does have a seizure disorder, but the good news is that it’s well controlled with medication. As long as he stays on his medication, he’s doing great and doesn’t let it slow him down one bit.

Because Pierre bonds so deeply, he can become anxious when left alone. He’d do best with someone who is home often or willing to help him build confidence over time.

Pierre isn’t looking for a house full of chaos or a revolving door of visitors.

He’s looking for his person.

Someone who appreciates a quirky little shadow, doesn’t mind having a furry sidekick 24/7, and understands that behind all those big opinions is an even bigger heart.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s equal parts cuddle bug, comedian, and self-appointed bodyguard, Pierre is waiting to interview you.

🚨 WE GOT A WEBSITE GLOW-UP! 🚨

If you’ve ever visited our website in the past… first of all, thank you for sticking with us. 😂 Let’s just say it had all the charm of a senior dog bed that’s seen one too many naps.

The good news? Those days are over!

Our amazing volunteer, Madison, generously stepped up and gave our website the facelift it desperately needed. Over the next few weeks, you’ll notice changes as we continue updating and improving everything.

The biggest change? Our website will finally be kept up to date with our available senior dogs! That means you’ll be able to browse adoptable pups, learn more about our rescue, and find the information you need without wondering if you’ve accidentally traveled back to 2014.

A huge thank you to Madison for donating her time and talent to make this happen. We can’t wait to show you what’s been happening behind the scenes.

🐾 Go check out the new look at https://beforethebridge.ca and let us know what you think! 💙

Meet Rusty! ☀️🐾

Born July 6, 2019, Rusty has two life goals: be as close to his human as physically possible and find the sunniest spot in the house for a nap. He’s got his priorities straight.

This lovable little guy is a great eater and does most of his business outside like the gentleman he is. Every once in a while, he remembers he’s a dog and feels the need to leave a little “I was here” autograph by marking, but overall he’s doing wonderfully.

Rusty is a certified Velcro dog. If you’re sitting, he’ll be beside you. If you’re sleeping, he’ll be curled up next to you in bed. If you get up to grab a snack… well, congratulations, you now have an adorable shadow.

When he’s not supervising your every move, you’ll find him stretched out in a patch of sunshine, soaking up every warm ray like a tiny solar-powered pup. If sunbathing were an Olympic sport, Rusty would be bringing home the gold.

Rusty is looking for a forever family that appreciates a loyal companion with a heart of gold, a love of cozy cuddles, and a talent for turning every sunny spot into his own personal resort. If your home could use a little more laughter, a little more love, and a full-time snuggle buddy, Rusty is ready to clock in.

Meet Maizie! 💕

The world is Maizie’s playground, and she’s determined to explore every inch of it. Whether she’s chasing her favorite squeaky toy, soaking up the sunshine, or rolling over for one more belly rub, this happy-go-lucky girl approaches every day with endless enthusiasm.

Born on June 22, 2025, Maizie is a busy little puppy with a zest for life that’s impossible not to love. She adores playing with her toys (especially the squeaky ones!), has a fantastic appetite, and is doing great with her housetraining. At the end of a fun-filled day, you’ll find her snuggled up on the bed with her foster mom, recharging for tomorrow’s adventures.

One of Maizie’s greatest loves is the outdoors. It doesn’t matter if it’s a warm summer afternoon or a snowy winter day—if there’s fresh air to enjoy, Maisie wants to be outside exploring for as long as you’ll let her.

Maizie has never met a stranger. She absolutely loves the children in her foster home, gets along wonderfully with the resident dogs, and is perfectly happy sharing her space with cats too. She’s the kind of puppy who just wants to be everyone’s friend.

Maizie is also a very special little girl. She is a tripod, having had her right rear leg amputated, and she has some fused vertebrae along with a small hole in her spine that does not affect the bone. None of it slows her down. She runs, plays, explores, cuddles, and enjoys life with a confidence that inspires everyone she meets.

Maizie is looking for a family who will embrace her adventurous spirit, celebrate her resilience, and spoil her with all the belly rubs she deserves. In return, she’ll fill your home with laughter, love, and a lifetime of unforgettable memories.

If you’re searching for a puppy with an adventurous heart, a playful soul, and endless love to give, Maizie is waiting to meet you. ❤️

Meet Ginger – Tiny Dog, Big Personality!

At just 7 pounds, Ginger proves that the best things really do come in small packages.

This sweet 13-year-old lady is looking for a cozy retirement home where she can soak up all the love she deserves. She’s fantastic with other dogs, has impeccable manners (she’s both house trained and p*e pad trained!), and if you’re holding a treat… congratulations, you’ve just become her new best friend. Ginger is incredibly food motivated, which makes winning her heart wonderfully easy.

Like many seniors, Ginger does have a few medical needs. She has a heart murmur that’s well managed with Vetmedin twice a day, and she takes her routine in stride. She doesn’t let it stop her from enjoying life.

Now, every queen has her quirks, and Ginger’s is a rather specific decorating preference: for reasons known only to her, bathroom mats occasionally seem to resemble p*e pads. Keep them picked up, and everyone stays happy!

Ginger is the kind of companion who just wants a soft bed, tasty snacks, gentle affection, and someone to love her through her golden years. In return, she’ll reward you with loyal companionship, a sweet little face, and plenty of reasons to smile.

If you’ve been looking for a tiny senior with a huge heart, Ginger is ready to meet you.

✨ Theo update! ✨

Remember our little stray boy?

Theo has finally settled into a permanent foster home, and now that he’s feeling safe, his personality is really starting to shine.

And let me tell you… he’s exactly what you’d expect from a one-year-old kitten.

He’s playful, curious, goofy, and absolutely convinced that everyone should be his best friend. His foster siblings—two senior dogs—don’t quite share his enthusiasm. Theo keeps trying to convince them to play, but they’re much more interested in naps than kitten zoomies. 😂

The good news? Theo absolutely adores dogs and gets along wonderfully with them. He also does well with other cats, despite being FIV positive.

Speaking of FIV…

Theo doesn’t know he has it, and honestly, it doesn’t slow him down one bit. He’s healthy, happy, affectionate, and living his very best life. FIV-positive cats can live long, normal lives, and unfortunately they’re often overlooked simply because people aren’t familiar with the condition.

We know Theo’s family is out there. Someone who will see beyond three little letters and fall in love with the sweet, cuddly, playful boy we’ve all come to adore.

❤️ Even better, Theo’s adoption fee has been generously sponsored by Meowtel Inn! Thank you for helping remove one more barrier to finding this amazing boy his forever home.

Please share Theo’s story. Every share gives him another chance to find the family he’s been waiting for. 🐾

❤️ADOPTION TRIAL❤️ Honey is once again looking for her forever home. ❤️

Through absolutely no fault of her own, Honey has found herself back with us and is hoping someone will finally give her the happily ever after she deserves.

Honey is approximately 8–9 years old and weighs just 8½ pounds. When she first arrived in rescue she was scared and reactive, but once she learned she was safe, her true personality blossomed. She’s affectionate, loyal, hilarious, and has just the right amount of sass.

Honey knows what she likes and isn’t shy about letting you know! She would do best as an only dog or with a confident canine companion who respects her boundaries. She has done well with respectful children, is house trained, and loves the comfort of a predictable routine.

One thing we’d like to be completely transparent about is that Honey has a small mammary tumor. After veterinary assessment, it has been confirmed to be benign. It is not cancer, it is not causing her any issues, and it does not affect her quality of life. We believe in being open and honest about the dogs in our care, and Honey deserves to be judged for the wonderful little dog she is—not by a harmless lump.

Honey has so much love left to give. She’s funny, feisty, cuddly, and will make someone an incredibly devoted companion.

If you think Honey could be the missing piece of your family, we’d love to hear from you.

❤️ COURTESY POST – Chloe is Looking for a Forever Home ❤️

Through no fault of her own, sweet Chloe is looking for a new family.

Her owner has been hospitalized for the past three months and, unfortunately, will not be able to return home to care for her. While family members have stepped in to make sure Chloe is safe and loved, they already have full households and are unable to provide her with a permanent home.

Chloe is approximately 8–9 years old and is a wonderfully affectionate girl who loves being with her people. She bonds quickly and is happiest simply spending time by your side. She doesn’t always get along well with other dogs, she’s always been the only pet in her home - so we feel she should remain the only pet in the home.

When she was younger, Chloe had surgery on both of her knees, so she can be a little slower these days, but she doesn’t let that stop her from enjoying life. She’s a gentle, loving companion who is simply looking for someone to love.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a loyal senior dog to your family, Chloe would love the chance to meet you.

Please note that this is a courtesy post. Chloe is not in the care of Before the Bridge Senior K9 Rescue. She is currently safe with family while they search for the right forever home.

If you’re interested in learning more about Chloe, please send us a message and we’ll connect you with her family.

As always, sharing this post is greatly appreciated—it may help Chloe find the loving home she deserves. ❤️🐾

💙 Ziggy Update 💙

Many of you have been asking how Ziggy is doing, and we wish we had better news.

The truth is…our sweet boy is still in boarding.

Boarding Ziggy was never a decision we took lightly. In rescue, we know that a kennel is never where a dog truly wants to be, but at the time, we simply had no other option.

Unfortunately, boarding is not where Ziggy is going to thrive.

As we’ve gotten to know him better, we’ve realized that Ziggy isn’t just looking for a place to sleep—he’s looking for a purpose.

Ziggy is an incredibly intelligent, active boy who wants to be involved in whatever you’re doing. He wants to go on adventures, learn, explore, and spend his days by your side. He isn’t the type of dog who’s happiest lounging on the couch all day. He has a working-dog mind, and he needs both mental and physical stimulation to be happy.

When those needs aren’t met, Ziggy becomes frustrated. Like many smart, high-drive dogs, boredom leads to destructive behaviours. It’s not because he’s a “bad dog.” It’s because he’s trying to cope with an environment that simply isn’t meeting his needs.

At 11 years old, Ziggy is still full of life. He’s strong, athletic, and would do best with someone who can confidently handle a large dog and appreciates the loyalty and intelligence that comes with breeds like his.

Ziggy also needs to be the only pet in the home, as he is reactive to other animals. We know that limits his options, but we also know his perfect person is out there.

Most of all, Ziggy wants a best friend.

Someone he’ll happily follow from room to room. Someone who’ll let him be part of their day instead of spending his days behind kennel walls.

He’s already lost the only home he ever knew when his mom became terminally ill. We’d love nothing more than to help him find another place where he can finally settle in, decompress, and be the amazing companion we know he can be.

If you’ve been following Ziggy’s story and think you might be the person he’s been waiting for, please reach out. Foster or adoption would change this boy’s life.

In the meantime, Ziggy’s boarding costs have now climbed to over $1,000, and they continue to grow while he waits for a home. If you’d like to help offset the cost of his care, we would be incredibly grateful. Please send us a message to make a donation—every dollar goes directly toward giving Ziggy the safe place he needs while we search for his forever home.

Please keep sharing Ziggy’s story. We know his person is out there—we just have to find them. ❤️
