In 2000, EMC Project Builders sent a work team to Nicaragua to construct a kitchen for Maranatha Camp. One team member, Dennis Kroeker, met a young man named Javier. Javier had recently committed his life to Jesus and was hired for his first construction job to help oversee a Canadian team.

When the project concluded, Dennis gave Javier his tool belt, including a hammer and many other tools. Javier was emotional but accepted the gift. Twenty-five years later, Gerald Reimer, Director of Global Outreach, and Mo Friesen, Next Generation Director, had a chance to sit with Javier and hear about how Dennis impacted his life.

Three years ago, EMC Project Builders donated $3,800 USD to help purchase the land for the future site of Iglesia Getsemani.

Since then, funds have slowly come in through fundraising sales and private donations. Each contribution has played a role in the gradual construction of the church—a faith project that has evolved over time.

Pastor Luz Divina Cortes leads Iglesia Getsemani, serving about 35 members and supporting ministries that teach young women to sew, providing income for those in need.

Project Builders is the arm of the EMC Board of Missions, aiming to make Christ known around the world by supporting mission projects and programs through businesses and individuals interested in advancing the work of the Kingdom.

It was a great opportunity for our national staff to connect and engage with the amazing pastors and leaders from Region 5. We’re grateful for the work they’re doing and the beautiful things God is doing through their ministries.
