VISION
Community enlightenment based on the core beliefs of feminism. MISSION
We are a non-profit, charitable (798 690 483 RR0001) organization in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada that responds to the persistent and universal need for promoting, understanding and embracing the core beliefs of feminism. Through professional theatre and related initiatives, we work to change hearts and minds. GUIDI

NG PRINCIPLES
- We challenge discrimination and stereotype in all forms
- We produce stories where at least 50 per cent of the text is spoken by women* character(s)
- We offer opportunities to all genders with a focus towards people who identify as women*
- We respond to issues that affect women* and girls in our community
- We re-examine universal stories traditionally told by cis men, through a feminist lens
- We strive to work through an intersectional lens for gender parity

CORE PRINCIPLE
Feminism: The belief in political, economic, personal, and social equality for women*. CORE BELIEFS
- Sexism exists
- Sexism against women* (misogyny) is enduring, pervasive, systemic, cultural, and ingrained
- All genders should have equal rights and opportunities
- All genders are the intellectual and social equals of each other
- All genders should be recognized and treated as equals
- Systems of oppression and discrimination are interdependent and span all social categorizations such as race, class, gender, ability, parental status, size, age, and sexual orientation as they apply to a given individual or group

*PerSIStence Theatre recognizes the limits of using binary language. Issues facing women do not only affect cisgender women: systems of oppression are interdependent and the patriarchy affects everyone in different ways. Our activism includes those identifying as transgender, non-binary, 2SLGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, racialized, disabled, as well as people with lived experience.

Thanks to funding from ArtsNL and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, PARC is thrilled to offer play development support to PARC NL members!

The first instalment of our fall workshop series gave PARC Member Ruth Lawrence the chance to workshop her new script 'IF SHE RUNS', featuring dramaturgy by PARC AD Santiago Guzmán.

Women turn up to vote at higher rates than their counterparts, and they care deeply about who gets elected. Yet, as recently as 2023, women made up just 30.6% of the members of Parliament. Research shows that many women won’t run for office—municipal, provincial, or federal—unless asked to put themselves forward. Where ambitions do exist, and when women candidates are on the ballot, combined parity in politics in Canada's Parliament has never been achieved. This new play, 'IF SHE RUNS,' explores some of the disconnect that arises around women in political life. How does the behaviour of the electorate impact how, why, and if a candidate will run for political office and does it determine if they stay?

Ruth Lawrence is an award-winning actor/writer/director/producer of film and theatre, based in St. John’s, NL. As a playwright, her produced work includes 'Song Seekers' (with Petrina Bromley and Michelle Rex Bailey), 'Other Women Walk,' 'Kate Crackerberry,' and 'The House Wife' (with Sherry White) for White Rooster Theatre, 'Mildred Baxter and The Lone Randells' (with Des Walsh) for Rising Tide Theatre. Her commissioned works include the upcoming 'IF SHE RUNS' for Persistence Theatre, 'More Than Words' for Longside Players, and 'The Times We Had' (with Michelle Rex Bailey and Tina Randell) for Rising Tide Theatre.
