Still reflecting on the conversations, insights, and connections made at last week’s Cruise Canada New England Symposium in Saguenay, Quebec. 🛳️

One of the biggest takeaways? Cruise lines aren’t just looking for ports — they’re looking for connected, authentic experiences that tell a story across an entire itinerary.

As destinations, we each bring something unique to the table. As a region, we create something even stronger.

Newfoundland and Labrador plays an important role within the Cruise Canada New England itinerary. As the easternmost point in North America, we offer opportunities to expand voyages through Indigenous experiences, Viking history, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, dramatic coastlines, fjords, and welcoming communities that leave a lasting impression.

With 26 cruise ports and destinations throughout our province and growing turnaround capabilities in St. John’s, we’re proud to be helping shape the future of cruise tourism in this region.

Thank you to our Cruise Canada New England partners and the cruise line representatives who continue to help us better understand how we can grow, evolve, and succeed together. ⚓️

Last Monday, Cruise Newfoundland & Labrador was pleased to join stakeholders in Botwood to discuss the opportunities and realities of cruise tourism in Central Newfoundland and Labrador.

As one of Cruise NL’s newest members, Botwood is an exciting emerging destination and gateway to the Exploits Valley. With its deep-water port, rich history, outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, and welcoming communities, the region offers many of the authentic experiences today’s cruise travellers are seeking.

During the session, Cruise NL’s Managing Director provided an overview of the cruise industry at the provincial, regional, national, and global levels, while Cruise NL Board Director Glenda Simms of the City of Corner Brook shared valuable insights from more than a decade of onboard cruise industry experience.

Thank you to Tara Saunders of AMU Consulting for contributing to the discussion and highlighting the importance of Indigenous culture, history, and experiences within the visitor experience. We also extend our thanks to the Port of Botwood for the invitation and to everyone who attended and participated in the conversation.

We look forward to continuing to work with communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador as they explore opportunities within the cruise sector.

The SH Vega is officially docked in St. John's ⛴️

Part of Swan Hellenic’s boutique expedition fleet, SH Vega is a polar-class expedition vessel designed for immersive exploration and cultural discovery throughout some of the world’s most remote regions.

With 81 passengers currently on board, the vessel visited Saint-Pierre yesterday, arrived in St. John's today, and continues on to St. Anthony tomorrow as part of its North Atlantic voyage.

SH Vega also marks an exciting moment as the first cruise ship of the 2026 season for Saint-Pierre, St. John’s, and St. Anthony, officially kicking off cruise season in all three destinations.

These smaller expedition-style vessels play an important role in cruise tourism throughout our region, bringing visitors into multiple communities while creating opportunities for authentic local experiences and meaningful cultural connections along the way.

We’re excited to celebrate the launch of a refreshed brand identity for our valued marketing partner, the Port of Corner Brook!

This new visual identity reflects the continued growth and evolution of the Port across cruise tourism, industrial operations, and regional development opportunities, while staying deeply connected to the natural beauty and maritime spirit of Western Newfoundland and Labrador.

Inspired by the Bay of Islands, the new branding captures the energy, optimism, and momentum happening in Corner Brook and throughout the region.

Congratulations to the team at the Corner Brook Port Corporation on this exciting milestone and on continuing to strengthen the visibility of one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s key cruise gateways.

We’re proud to work alongside partners who help showcase why our province continues to stand out as a welcoming, authentic, and world-class cruise destination.

Some destinations have beaches… we have this.

Iceberg season is well underway here in Newfoundland & Labrador and it’s lined up beautifully alongside the start of our cruise season.

Right now, we’re seeing icebergs move down the coast from Greenland, showing up across multiple regions of the province. For anyone cruising here this spring and early summer, there’s a real chance you’ll experience one, whether it’s on the ship, in port, or along the coastline.

Did you know, you can track iceberg activity in real time using Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism Iceberg Finder tool. It’s a great way to see what’s been spotted and where, especially if you’re:

* cruising to the province this season
* building itineraries in our region
* or just curious about what’s out there right now

They’re not scheduled, and they don’t follow an itinerary but that’s exactly what makes it special.

It’s National Tourism Week in Canada, and we’re coming off a strong and productive week at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami.

The week provided an important opportunity to connect and network, alongside our partners in the Cruise Canada New England Alliance and the Cruise Islands of the North Atlantic network. We also spent valuable time networking at industry events like the Access Cruise, Inc., Brunch on the Beach and at CLIA | Cruise Lines International Association’s Business on the Bay event.

Cruise Newfoundland & Labrador was proud to be represented alongside our partners from the Port of Corner Brook and the The St. John's Port Authority. We were also pleased to have new representation from the Port of Botwood, an emerging deep-water seaport in central Newfoundland & Labrador, as they begin exploring opportunities to integrate cruise into their community.

As we move through National Tourism Week, we’ll be highlighting the role cruise tourism plays across Newfoundland & Labrador — supporting local economies, strengthening communities, and connecting visitors to place.

Coming out of Seatrade, there is strong momentum and a clear sense of opportunity for the continued growth of cruise tourism in our province.
