Join us for a very special Design Sip and Social!

In fostering a relationship with our aligned networks and furthering our connection to culture and design within our community, the NLAA is pleased to collaborate with the Bonavista Biennale to present this unique evening.

The Bonavista Biennale is a contemporary art exhibition presented every second year on the Bonavista Peninsula. With installations located in various communities around a 165km coastal loop, the Biennale is colloquially referred to as a “contemporary art scavenger hunt,” wherein art installations are sited in historic buildings and alongside striking landscapes. The Biennale is a non-profit charitable organization that hosts artists in these communities, allowing them to explore their medium through the lens of this remote context.

From the Bonavista Biennale website:
“Experience contemporary art on the Bonavista Peninsula. With over 20 artists on view at unique indoor and outdoor sites, the entire Biennale is free and open to all.

The 2025 Bonavista Biennale: String Games runs from August 16 to September 14, 2025.”

Join us at Bannerman Brewery at 6:30pm on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, for a casual meet-and-greet with the 2025 Bonavista Biennale Executive Director, Sue Balint, where she will present this year’s Biennale theme and join in lively design conversation.

The Colonial Building: 15 Years of Restoration
November 20th at 7:30pm at the Colonial Building
90 Military Road, St. John’s, NL

TONIGHT!!!

The cornerstone of the Colonial Building was laid on May 24, 1847. A gem of neoclassical architecture, the building was home to the Newfoundland and Labrador Legislative Assembly from 1850 until 1959. However, not too long ago, the building was in desperate need of repair and restoration. For a building with such a rich history, how do you go about restoring it to its original grandeur?

Join Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Architects’ member Kerry Gosse as she uncovers that very question and reveals the 15-year restoration process.

Kerry Gosse is an architect at Stantec with over 30 years-experience in project management, architectural design, conservation, and contract administration for commercial institutional, residential, historic, and tourism developments. As a designated heritage building specialist, Kerry is dedicated to preserving the rich architectural heritage of Atlantic Canada. Serving on a number of historic and restoration committees, Kerry is a member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (currently chair of the Atlantic chapter), and is a past chair and founding member of the Atlantic chapter of the Canadian Green Building Council. She is also a professional archaeologist with a keen interest in heritage and restoration projects.
