Some regions just have the right geological “recipe” for gold – and central Newfoundland & Labrador is one of them!

The region sits on long, deep fault corridors that naturally concentrate gold, creating an orogenic gold belt with multiple deposits and growing exploration projects.

Our Valentine Gold Mine is one of the first large mines along this belt, developed along the Valentine Lake Shear Zone – a 30+ km trend of gold-bearing veins.

With several deposits already defined and many targets still early-stage, Valentine Gold Mine is much more than a single mine – it’s an operating asset in the heart of an emerging gold district, with plenty of room to grow!

🎉Welcome to 2026 🎉

There is something special about welcoming a new year. It is the moment when we are inspired to set intentions for the months ahead.

Fireworks 💥 have been a common symbol of celebration, representing triumph, optimism and joy. But, did you know mineral elements produce the colour in fireworks?

Gold sparks are produced by iron filings and small pieces of charcoal, while bright flashes and loud bangs come from aluminum powder.

Here’s a look at the brilliant colours you see and the minerals that produce them.

🔴 Red = Strontium (Sr)
🟠 Orange = Strontium (Sr) + Sodium (Na)
🟡 Yellow = Sodium (Na)
🟢 Green = Barium (Ba)
🔵 Blue = Copper (Cu)
🟣 Purple = Strontium (Sr) + Copper (Cu)
⚪️ Greys & White = Titanium (Ti) + Zirconium + Magnesium (Mg)

Thank you for being a part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s world-class mining and minerals community.

Warm wishes for the year ahead!

As the year draws to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the progress made, and the vital role the mining and mineral resources sector continues to play in shaping a more resilient future.

In 2025, we marked several important accomplishments:
🔸Project portfolio growth;
🔸Staffing expansion;
🔸Advocacy and representation;
🔸Global investment and promotions 🔸Building a new outreach and education program;
🔸Transitioning to a new online membership platform;
🔸Delivering an Industry Roundtable and more.

Together, these moments underscore both how far we’ve come and the opportunities ahead.

At Mining NL, we proudly work alongside our members and stakeholders. We are inspired by the collaboration, innovation, and leadership emerging from this critical sector, and we look forward to welcoming even more members and stakeholders into this work in the year ahead.

The Mining NL office will be closed from December 22, 2025 to January 2, 2026, inclusive. The office reopens January 5, 2026.

We look forward to reconnecting in the new year, energized and ready to continue advancing growth and productivity together.

🔔 🎄🔔Grinch Sighting 🔔🎄🔔

There’s been a recent sighting of the infamous Christmas Grinch, who is known to frequent the CBS area in Newfoundland and Labrador. It turns out the grinch is a geologist who really likes copper … and all and used for the 'green' energy transition!

Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, and joyful holiday season. 🎄 🪨 🥽⛏️ 🎁

NL strengthens global ties!

showcased Newfoundland and Labrador's vast mineral potential, including world-class gold, copper and salt projects in London, United Kingdom, and celebrated as Atlas Salt Inc. took 1st place at the Resourcing Tomorrow Investment Pitching Battle.

The mining industry creates thousands of jobs in rural areas, and our province has 34 of the critical minerals needed for clean-energy technologies. We are proud to support our industry partners on the world stage.

How Can Newfoundland and Labrador Unlock Mining Potential?

Value creation starts with EXPLORATION!

Mineral exploration is the vital starting point to unlocking new mineral resource potential required to power our modern world.

No potential new mineral deposits will be discovered, and no new resource development will occur without ongoing prospecting and mineral exploration activity.

How Does Mining Benefit Newfoundland and Labrador?

Newfoundland and Labrador’s mineral resources sector industry is worth $6.1 billion – powering jobs, innovation and growth in rural and remote regions of the province. With $258 million investment forecasted in exploration for this year, and more than $1 billion spent since 2021, there’s untapped mineral potential.
