Not all who manage projects are called project managers.

Just as not all who tell you what you should do at work are project managers

Project management shows up in every single industry on this planet.

And has enabled the exploration of what is beyond it as well.

Because it's such a broad discipline, project management can be often recognized by the group of responsibilities or tasks someone oversees or executes instead of the Project Manager title.

A PM defines what is to be delivered, breaks down a big goal into smaller activities, coordinates how and when these activities are to be achieved and by whom, monitors and reports progress.

So, if not all project managers are project managers, who is?

2025 Community Impact winner, Pratheek J Shenoy went from launching Cognizant (IT), Amazon's global marketplaces and WW pricing governance to Barrington Consulting and CGI launching Epic and Oracle Cerner systems in Atlantic Canada hospitals. And through his volunteering, he's focused on food insecurity partnering with NL Eats.

When asked about how he managed these seemingly 180 transitions, Pratheek answered:

"[The common thread across e-commerce, healthcare, and community work is to] understand the people affected/their pain point before you design the solution."

We sat down (exchanged emails) with the 2025 Community Impact Winner, Pratheek J Shenoy to chat about his multi-industry career journey, the project management lesson Pratheek wishes he'd learned sooner, and why he doesn't believe in fire extinguishers.
