Princess and the Purse - Newfoundland

Princess and the Purse - Newfoundland Once upon a time there was a woman who struggled financially. Mom will do whatever is needed to make sure Christmas is a special day. But what about mom???

This page serves at the information hub for the not for profit Princess and the Purse - NEWFOUNDLAND annual campaign to help women in need to feel like a Princess during the Christmas Season! Her pick-me-up for the day was when she would find samples of lipstick, perfume or makeup in Chatelaine or Vogue magazines, most of the time while waiting in the doctors office. You could find them sitting on

her dresser to be used for special occasions because her feminine desires were not in the budget. As a single parent or a household under a strict budget the mother will always make sure her family is taken care of and that the children come first. They get groceries from a food bank if necessary, a turkey from the turkey drive and even work extra jobs to make sure the children have a happy Christmas. Their goal is to make sure the children enjoy this day never knowing the struggles that are going on. She works so hard to make sure everyone is thought of even more during the Christmas season. This is where "Princess and the Purse" is created. We can't give her a prince or a gown for the ball but we can make her feel like a princess because in that purse it’s all for her and all about her!! What is "Princess and the Purse"? Take a gently used "Winter" (no white or beige) purse. Fill it with all the little things we take for granted but that someone under a strict budget would not spend money on. Put it in a pretty Christmas bag. Ideas to put in the purse:
Lipstick
Lip gloss
Deodorant
Kleenex
Gum
Comb
Hair clips
Nail file
Nail clippers etc...

Donations of any kind would be greatly appreciated. Like and share us so that we can make our beautiful women feel like a princesses!

Iris Kirby House provides safe accomodations and outreach services to hundreds of women and families in our local community every year. In most cases, when a woman leaves an abusive home, she does not have time to take her belongings with her. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of others, we are able to provide essential items and basic comforts to women and families during their stay, and as they transition to an independent life free from abuse.

We've been receiving calls from people and organizations in our community who are curious about what they can donate to our transition house. We have compiled a wish list of a few specific items that we are in need of at this time.

Donations can be dropped off at 196 Waterford Bridge Road during daytime hours.
Due to space restrictions we are unable to accept other used items (clothing, housewares and toys). Thank you all so much for thinking about us, we appreciate your support!

Thank you!!!! 2023 will be amazing!

Thank you!!!! 2023 will be amazing!

Keynote Earl Ludlow asked that we make a donation to a deserving charity in lieu of his speakers fee. We thought it only appropriate to make a donation to Princess and the Purse - Newfoundland, a charity being managed by impact speaker Kelly Carew 👸👛❤️ Presented by NLOHSA President, John Curran.

What is Princess and the Purse - NL?

The idea for “Princess and the Purse” was started in Moncton, by a woman who spent years living in poverty. When she finally managed to claw her way out of poverty, Lorraine Cormier started giving gently used purses to single mothers and women in the community who didn't have the means to treat themselves.

While traveling to Moncton, Renee Druggett met Lorraine, they hit it off and when Renee returned home, she excitedly implemented Lorraine's idea in St. Johns. This is our 4th year of helping those women in our city, towns and communities who need to a little help and pick me up during one of the hardest times of the year.

Helping women in need is what Princess and the Purse all across Canada is about!

Women work hard to make sure everyone is taken care, even more so during the Christmas season. Sometimes, women, especially moms, get forgotten. This is where "Princess and the Purse" comes in! We can make her feel like a princess because in that purse it’s all about her and for her!!
