🌿 World Wetlands Day at the Fluvarium – Feb 1 🌿
Join us as we celebrate the incredible role wetlands play in protecting biodiversity right here in our city!
We’re excited to welcome SEM who will be setting up a booth to share their work across the St. John’s watershed and highlight how interconnected wetlands support healthy ecosystems and vulnerable species like the American Eel and the Banded Killifish.
🐟 The Banded Killifish is listed as a Species of Special Concern under federal and provincial legislation. SEM documented this species in Quidi Vidi Lake during American Eel monitoring in 2022—an important reminder that urban wetlands matter.
In 2025, SEM completed field work for Population Assessment and Environmental DNA Analysis of Banded Killifish in Quidi Vidi Lake, using habitat studies, sediment and eDNA analysis, and mark-and-recapture surveys to better understand how wetlands support biodiversity.
💧 Come learn, explore, and celebrate wetlands with us on February 1 as part of World Wetlands Day!
🕛 Open 12:00–4:00pm | Regular admission applies
