St. John's Animal Save The Save Movement bears witness to the suffering and unjust taking of animal lives at slaughterhouses

Every year, 75 billion chickens are raised for meat. In addition, 6 billion male chicks are killed immediately after hatching at egg-laying facilities. Because they cannot lay eggs and grow too slowly to be profitable for meat compared to the rapid 42-day cycle of broiler chickens, they are discarded ๐Ÿ’”

These numbers are too vast for the human brain to fully comprehend, often, instead of being moved, people become apathetic when confronted with them. Yet, chickens are intelligent, social, and sensitive individuals who love life, their families, and their companions.
This industry is a monster, causing a depth of suffering that words cannot capture. On the inside, they are no different from the dogs and cats we love, they are simply wearing a different suit.

Choose compassion: their lives, not ours.

Seventy-five billion beautiful, feathered souls are lost every year. They are living, intelligent, and sensitive beings who come into this world just like us, experiencing life for the very first time, wishing only for a chance to exist in peace.

Choose kindness.

Choose the mercy you would want if you were at the mercy of others.

They cannot free themselves, but we can.
Go vegan for them ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿค

Today was windier than expected, but we showed up anyway ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’”

The reactions were mixed. Some people slowed down, nodded, and honked. Others looked away, yelled, or flipped us off. Thatโ€™s what showing up looks like sometimes. Itโ€™s uncomfortable, itโ€™s messy, and it matters.

Why were we there?
Because the chickens inside are individuals, not inventory. They feel fear, pain, and stress just like the pets we love at home. The reality for most of them is confinement, mutilation without pain relief, and a terrifying end. These arenโ€™t accidents or rare cases, this is standard practice in the animal agriculture industry.

Showing up matters because silence allows it to continue. Every person who bears witness, asks questions, and refuses to look away shifts the culture a little. When we take a stand, we say: these lives count. These injustices wonโ€™t be invisible.

If youโ€™ve been wondering whether one person showing up makes a difference - it does. It matters to the people who see us, and it matters to the animals who finally have someone on the outside remembering they exist.

Weโ€™ll be back. If you want to stand with us next time, join your local Animal Save group. Together, we make a difference ๐Ÿ’š

On Mother's Day, we think of all of the mothers in the animal agriculture industry.

To the mother cow who carried her baby for nine months, only to have her baby taken from her so humans can drink her milk.. we see you.

To the hen who is used to produce more eggs than her body can handle so humans can eat them.. we see you.

To the mother pig in the farrowing crate, unable to comfort her sick piglet next to her.. we see you.

We promise to never stop fighting for your freedom and hope that one day, we will live in a world where you and your babies can live a life free from exploitation.

Let's continue to strive for a vegan world ๐Ÿ’š

April 15, 2026

St. John's Animal Save gathered today to hold a vigil for the thousands of chickens killed at this location each day. The community response was incredible. We heard so many honks, saw countless waves, and caught the attention of curious onlookers.

Most people drive past this building without considering what happens inside. To the industry, chickens are "stock." Each life gets reduced to a number on a spreadsheet. We're here because that number is a sentient being who matters. What happens to them is not okay.

We have to keep standing up for every animal trapped in this system. Every animal deserves a life free from harm.

We hope you'll join us at the next vigil ๐Ÿ’š
