To reflect on black history is to consider the tangible after effects of its history on the present; whether it be through sustained narratives or inherited visual languages.

These film recommendations offer an invitation to engage with films that are wide ranging and far reaching in voices, textures and perspectives of Black and African cinema across the globe.

As we look ahead to the 2026 edition of the Open Film Festival, they serve as a grounding preview of what is to come in the months ahead.
