🔴 PANEL SELECTS FFAW OFFER FOR SUMMER SHRIMP

We received notice this morning that the Panel has selected the FFAW offer for summer shrimp.

This represents a significant increase over the summer 2025 price schedule, as well as the spring 2026 price schedule.

Thank you to the negotiating committee for your support and guidance: harvesters Chris Gould (4R), Chris Rose (3Kn), Bobby Noble (3Ks), Heather Starkes (3Ks), and Nelson Bussey (3L), and staff: Dwan Street, Sherry Glynn, Onye Oluoha, Miranda Butler, and Julian Ryan.

Below is the price table for shrimp landed to the plant and landed in St. Anthony or Port au Choix. The 8-cent deduction remains in place for shrimp trucked from elsewhere on the island.

Based on summer 2025 distributions, this price table results in an average price of $1.84/lb.

🔵 FIX THE EI BLACK HOLE

Seasonal workers rely on a combination of work and EI to make it through the full year. When the regional unemployment rate drops, the hours required to qualify can increase while the number of weeks of EI workers can access decreases.

Every two-percentage-point decrease in the unemployment rate means roughly three fewer weeks of EI for seasonal workers, creating the same kind of “black hole” that pushed workers onto social assistance in 2023–24.

Once the season is over, workers cannot go back and earn additional hours. EI rules must reflect the reality of seasonal work in rural Newfoundland and Labrador.

Stop penalizing seasonal workers. Fix EI now!

📣SHRIMP REMINDERS

With the shrimp fishery underway in SFA 6, it’s a good time to post reminders about tolerances, limits, and dates. There are no changes; this is just a reminder of rules that have been in place for many years.

- The current spring price schedule expires on Saturday, June 20 at midnight. The summer price schedule will then be in place until mid-September. The parties were unable to reach an agreement, so the Panel hearing was held on Friday, June 12. We are expecting a decision tomorrow, and the price will be posted as soon as it is available.
-The fleet caps for SFA 6 are: 2J 120,000 lb, plus 10,000 lb cap tolerance; 3Kn 120,000 lb, plus 10,000 lb cap tolerance; 3Ks 73,825 lb, plus 10,000 lb cap tolerance; 3L 110,000 lb, plus 10,000 lb cap tolerance.
- There is a 10,000 lb per share cap tolerance and a 10,000 lb per share trip limit tolerance. The trip limit tolerance does not allow you to exceed your cap plus tolerance. It just allows you flexibility in your trip limits.
- When calculating overruns, reject shrimp is deducted from the catch.
- Trip limits change on June 20. That table is posted below.
- Details on the re-opening of SFA 7 are expected next week, and we will post as soon as information is available.

🔵 STOP PENALIZING SEASONAL WORKERS

Seasonal workers should not be punished for working in a seasonal industry that our province’s economy depends upon.

Under the current EI divisor, workers may need nearly $4,000 more in earnings to receive the same maximum weekly benefit, even when the length of the season is completely out of their control.

Stop penalizing seasonal workers. Fix EI now!
