Today is World Water Day. To give thanks and appreciation for our water we held a water ceremony. Water is life. 🌊💧

A prayer for our water:

Creator, we give thanks for all the water of the world. Samqwan is life. We know it as rain, mist, snow, waterfalls, rivers, streams, seas and oceans. More than half of our body is water. Water sustains us. It quenches our thirst and gives us strength. It cleanses us and the earth. For this we are grateful.

Water unites us. We share water with every entity on Earth. The water that evaporates from our puddles will find its way to Europe, Greenland, and other surrounding countries. The Nile River carries water through 11 African countries. Water collected from the earth by our crops finds its way into our bodies. We each have a duty to protect the water so we ask you, Creator, to keep this in our minds.

With one mind, we send thanks to the spirit of the water. Let us feel the power of the water within ourselves; the ebb and flow and the power of healing and cleansing. Please infuse our water with strength and courage to face hard times and with joy to fill our lives with love and happiness.

We would like to take a moment to recognize one of our members, Joan Hodder, who has received the very first Student of the Year award through the Ktaqmkuk Mi'Kmaw Fluency Project for her efforts in learning and sharing the Mi'Kmaw language.

Joan teaches our group a little of what she has learned at every meeting and we are so grateful for her lessons!

Congratulations Joan!!

Victor Muise was the first person from the West Coast to begin learning Mi’kmaw long before registration.

We are proud today to honor Victor and our first Student of the year with KMFP, receiving the Victor Muise Award.

Congratulations Joan Hodder. Wel-lukwen aq mekite’lmulek.
