Metro Youth Parliament (MYP), formerly known as St. John’s Regional Youth Parliament, is a no

n-partisan, non-profit organization, run entirely by youth between the ages of 15 and 24 and dedicated to bringing the experience of parliamentary democracy to the youth of the metro area of the North-East Avalon. The aims of the MYP are to educate youth about the institutions of Parliament and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in a democracy, to provide a forum for youth on issues concerning society, and to help youth develop their skills in public speaking and debate

MYP’s primary activity is to host a semi-annual parliamentary style debates which can cover any number of real world issues. Any youth can register for one of these sessions, and can either actively participate or simply watch. At the end of the session members can enjoy the company of like-minded people and talk about the debate in more detail.
