Hilltop House Support Society supports the residents of the long-term care home in Squamish, BC

The Support Society recently purchased four more drums for the music therapy program. These sit on the floor and are easier for the residents to play. Thanks to Maddie, our wonderful music therapist, for requesting these great additions to the drum circle and for all the music activities she has created which the residents really enjoy.

Yesterday, the volunteers who cook and serve at Friday Night Dinners provided spare ribs, roasted vegetables, home-made buns and English trifle for the residents. Our two student volunteers, Savreet and Sauvin will be heading off to university next month. They have been a great addition to our team and, we and the residents will miss them. Thanks girls and all the best for the future.

Yesterday, the residents went on a excursion new to all of them. We took a trip up the forestry road to Squamish Canyon and enjoyed an hour in the forest on the lounge patio. There were ice-creams all round and plenty to look at. Nicky and the staff were so helpful letting us take the bus in so we didn't have far to push the wheelchairs. We really thank the Canyon for welcoming our group and making this trip possible. It really was a wonderful afternoon.

Another great bus trip to the Oceanfront today with a nice wind to cool down the warm day and ice-creams to enjoy. There was also plenty of action out on the water to watch. A really pleasant way for the residents to spend an afternoon.

Thanks to a family's generous donation in memory, another of the resident's garden areas received a make-over. A planter full of flowers, a large gazebo and a memorial bench will keep the memory of Julie alive and the garden will be enjoyed by residents and their families for years to come. A huge thank you from the Support Society and all at Hilltop House.

The Hilltop House vegetable garden is looking bountiful thanks to Anne Bracey and her group of volunteer gardeners, the recreation staff and the many residents who help out. This is a great activity the residents can participate in, growing their own fruit and vegetables. Many thanks to everyone who make this garden successful.

We were pleased to welcome Sea 2 Sky Allies and the Tantalus Drag Collective to Hilltop House yesterday. The residents really enjoyed the show and engaging with the performers. Sea 2 Sky Allies highlights the importance of allyship for our q***r and gender-diverse community members and building inclusive spaces within the community. We really appreciate them bringing their group to Hilltop and look forward to a return visit.

We took the recyclable drink containers collected from Hilltop House today and delivered them to the bottle depot. They added $30 to the resident's ice-cream fund. The Hilltop House Support Society has an account at the depot so anyone's returns can be donated to HILLTOP and the funds will be used to purchase ice-creams on the summer bus trips and hot chocolate in the winter.

Today, the residents really enjoyed a trip to see the horses at Cheekye Ranch. We found a nice spot in the shade of the trees so the residents could feed the animals and enjoy an ice-cream. Thanks, as always, goes to the management and volunteers at the ranch. The work they do rescuing these animals is wonderful and we really appreciate them taking the time allowing us to come and visit.

Many thanks to our group of gardening volunteers who have been meeting each week to plant the vegetable garden and work on the landscaping at Hilltop House. It is so appreciated by everyone there.
The progress would not have been possible without the contributions from the community. Amrize donated two yards of soil, Canadian Tire provided compost and mulch, Home Depot and the Squamish Garden Club donated many of the plants. Thanks to everyone involved.
