School might have been out in summer, but we were busy as a bee completing the Garibaldi Highlands Elementary edible school garden and gearing up for opening the Don Ross kitchen.

We now run 5 school gardens in town. That's 5 gardens where elementary students receive weekly outdoor programs in fall and spring where they experience what it means to grow your own food and to better appreciate that food doesn't have to come from a store or wrapped in plastic.

Help fund our garden educators in delivering these wonderful programs by donating to our garden program fund.

A truckload of thank yous to West-Barr Contracting for their generous in-kind support in preparing the ground and getting the garden ready for planting.

As if delivering 70,000 school lunches last year wasn't enough, we've now taken on a kitchen at Don Ross Middle School as well as our 55 Kitchen. We'll be providing lunches Tuesday through Thursday and plan to grow the program more in the future.

Looking to support our School Meal Program in a different way? How about volunteering at the Big Night Out on October 18 from 4–8PM?

This event, hosted by House of L***r, Routes Eatery and the Broken Seal, is bringing together local favourites for an evening of food, drink and music. All proceeds will go to supporting the delivery of over 70,000 school meals to local students—a program that recovers less than 40% of costs yet saves families over $800 a year.

Volunteers are needed for tasks such as ticket checking, bussing tables and coat check. If you're interested in signing on, reach out to [email protected].
