Within this vision we run the Mamquam River Campground. The goal of this page is to engage our community! MRAS began to take shape in 2007 when the founder, John Harvey, realized that there was access issues to the Mamquam River's white whater kayak site. He spoke with the site land owner, Coast Aggregate, and got permission from the District of Squamish to upgrade the road before he set off to fu
ndraise. In order to access grant money for the large project, John registered MRAS as a non-profit organization with the BC registrar in 2008. MRAS then took on more projects to support the Squamish whitewater and paddling community such as a boat storage facility on the down town Squamish waterfront in 2010 and the development of a kayak put in rec site for the middle Mamquam run at 9 mile in the upper mamquam river area in 2011. In 2013, MRAS's biggest endeavour was born. MRAS broadened its constitution to develop a rustic, affordable, campground on the Mamquam River and became a charity. Currently MRAS has at its core the vision to operate a funky, affordable campground and to provide drivable access to the Mamquam River for Whitewater paddlers, while being a spokesperson for the Mamquam River watershed. MRAS offers memberships to Kayakers wishing to get a key for the White Water Kayak site gate. Keys can be picked up at the Mamquam River Campground. Bussiness meberships are $100 and individuals pay $50. Individuals whom want to Borrow a key can pay $50 and get it back when the key is returned.
