Welcome to the Samatha-Vipassana Meditation Centre. Our vision is to provide spiritual guidance based on the original teachings of Lord Buddha, to the local community in Edmonton, the general public of Canada, as well as the world at large, to cultivate and develop morality, concentration and wisdom within our society, irrespective of one’s origin, faith, religion or ethnicity. We offer a range of

services including meditation programs, sutta discussions, Sunday School for children, special retreats, religious services at homes and daily Buddhist sermons. These services are offered in both English and Sinhala languages and are freely available to everyone. The Samatha-Vipassana Meditation Centre is an institute maintained by the Alberta Buddhist Vihara Association (ABVA), an organization established with the objective of providing community an understanding of Buddhism and its practice, particularly of the Theravada tradition. ABVA was founded in 1983 as a community group and then registered in 1994 as a charitable organization in Alberta, Canada.

Our Annual Bottle Drive 2026 is now underway in support of the Alberta Insight Meditation Centre.

The next time you visit the temple, please consider bringing your empty refundable beverage containers with you and dropping them off at our designated collection area.

You can bring your bottles when attending:

🙏 Monthly Sil Programs
🙏 In-person Dhamma School
🙏 Other temple events and activities

Rains Retreat Invitation Ceremony 2026 (වස් ආරාධනා පුණ්‍යෝත්සවය 2026)

Our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us for the Rains Retreat Invitation Ceremony 2026. It was truly heartening to welcome over 200 participants as our community came together to respectfully invite the Maha Sangha to observe this year's Vas (Rains Retreat).

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this special evening of devotion, generosity, and blessings a memorable occasion.
