The Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre is a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art venue accommodating sporting, recreational, cultural, tourism and business activities. Uniquely designed to use geothermal energy from the former Springhill Mines to heat and cool the building, the centre is the largest sporting facility in Atlantic Canada to operate on this type of environmentally-friendly power.

Home to the Richard Calder Arena, Ross Anderson PharmaChoice Teen Centre and the CIBC Common Room event space.

Don’t have skates? No problem! We have a limited number of skates and helmets available to borrow for anyone who needs them.

🏒 HOCKEY SEASON IS HERE! 🏒

The ice is in, and we’re ready for another exciting season at the Richard Calder Arena! ❄️🥅

For the third year in a row, we’re excited to welcome JAHM Hockey Academy as they kick off our hockey season!

A very special THANK YOU to Daren White for once again doing a spectacular job painting our logos on the ice. 🎨👏

We also want to give a huge shoutout to our amazing maintenance team! They’ve been working hard over the past few weeks preparing the ice and getting the arena ready for another busy season. Their hard work behind the scenes makes it all possible! 🙌

We’re looking forward to another great ice season!

⛸️ PUBLIC SKATING IS BACK! 🏒

Lace up your skates and join us at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre for public skating this season, starting Sunday, August 23! ❄️

📅 2026/27 Public Skating Schedule: Check out the schedule below for all regular skate times!

⚠️ Please note: Public skating will be cancelled August 24–27 due to JAHM Hockey School.

🪖 Helmets are mandatory for all skaters. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Skate times are subject to change or cancellation based on rental schedules. Any changes will be posted and communicated through our social media channels.

Due to the high volume of requests and to ensure we don't miss anyone, please ensure you speak with a Maggie's Place staff member directly to reserve your backpack! Unfortunately we are unable to accept requests by social media, email, in person or voice mail message. 🎒✏📔📓🖍📏📐🏫📚🖊️

Once reserved, Backpacks and supplies may picked up at Maggie's Place, 11 Elmwood Drive, Amherst beginning Monday, August 24. Other pick up locations/ times are available in: Wentworth, Oxford, Springhill, Pugwash, Wallace, River Hebert, Parrsboro & Advocate and will be shared when calling to reserve your backpack. 🎒✏📔📓🖍📏📐🏫📚🖊️
