Join University Art Collections for an evening of offsite programming in collaboration with Open Space Art’s Society for a conversation, reflection, and relationship-building connected to the exhibition Shux Shux and the Island. Moderated by curator Nadine Spence with guests.

This gathering brings together artists, curators, and knowledge keepers to discuss Indigenous resurgence, community relationships, artistic practice, and the ongoing work of carrying teachings across generations on the Island.

TRU is excited to be hosting the “Secwepemc and the Kenkeknum — a season of the Honouring Our Grandmothers' Healing Journey" exhibit at the Williams Lake campus. The exhibit opening is Friday, Dec. 5, at 6pm and will be here until March 14, 2026.

Curated by Nlaka’pamux artist Nadine Spence, the exhibit includes painted chests and boxes, ink on paper, blankets, and other original artworks. Nadine has included handmade family heirlooms inspired by her late mother Margaret Rose (Archie) Spence, a survivor of St. Joseph's Mission Indian Residential School.

Featured artists include: Ronnie Dean Harris, Margaret August, Denni Spence, Carrielynn Victor, Vanessa Serroul, Nadine Spence, Sue Sterling-Bur and Chris Bur, Tamara Archie, Atheana Picha, Autumn Walkem, Mike Alexander and many other artists.
