We are genuinely honoured to announce that our very own George Banks was the recipient of the Prince Edward Island Home and School Federation‘s annual School Bus Driver of the Year Award.

This award is given to two drivers annually. Nominations are supported by letters from other parents, staff members, co workers, past and present students, and artwork from some younger students. A parent (who happens to be a former student who rode on George’s bus) did an excellent job behind the scenes putting this application together for our submission.

George was surprised today with an assembly in his honour, where people of various backgrounds (current riders on his bus, a representative from our local Home and School, our principal, a school board trustee, members of the Provincial Home and School board) spoke about how deserving he was for this recognition. The vibe was electric, with students of all ages shouting GEORGE, GEORGE, GEORGE as he received his award. It wasn’t hard to tell just how much he means to our school community.

George has been behind the wheel for almost 40 years now, making a difference in the lives of students for generations.

There was a reoccurring theme throughout the letters in his application - George is kind, caring, reliable and incredibly trustworthy. Our community has been and continues to be very lucky to have him.

Congratulations again George. You are SO deserving of this award.

Check out this spread 😍 we were happy to hear that the students gravitated to our set up this morning, so much so that Ms Tena was kept on her toes refilling everything.

She now has a fresh load of supplies and is ready to make the magic happen again tomorrow (and for the rest of the week).

When you support Souris Regional Home & School, you support many initiatives like these that genuinely do make a difference in the lives of our students.

Staff members have given feedback that this particular initiative seems to really reduce stress levels in students and “completely changes the tone” during exam days.

Exam season is underway, and our snack and beverage table is stocked and ready to help make the week a little less stressful for students.

Please remind your kids that these options are available to senior high students beginning today and continuing through this set of exams.

*There is also a dedicated allergy friendly section available for students who need it

A special thank you to Ms Tena Creamer & her students for taking care of this project this year. They took the lead on the entire thing: shopping lists, stocking and will be replenishing the snack table throughout the week. We appreciate it 🥰

Over the past couple of weeks, you may have spotted our members out and about in the community selling raffle tickets on an AMAZING summer prize pack.

Tickets are $20 each, or 3 for $50, and the winner gets to take home:
🍔 a Blackstone grill
🧊 a Yeti cooler
🔥 a custom fire pit
🪑 2 Adirondack chairs
🍴 a Blackstone accessory kit

This huge prize was donated by some very generous local businesses (stay tuned for their upcoming shout outs).

We’ll continue to be popping up around the town for ticket sales.

We’re very grateful that Julie at Vernon D’Eon Souris and the staff at Elliott's General Store have been selling tickets at their businesses on our behalf (ask if they have any left on your next trip in).

We’d also like to shoutout the Souris Legion Branch 3 and MacPhee’s Market Independent for allowing us to sell tickets at their establishments.

If you’d like to get some tickets for yourself and haven’t caught any of us out and about yet, feel free to message here to arrange etransfer & we will fill some out for you.

As always, thank you for the continued support, whether that is purchasing tickets or just a friendly smile and asking for a project update. We appreciate every bit of it 🙌🏼

What a rush this morning! 🏍️🚑🚒🚔

Our volunteers were hard at work serving lunch to approximately 150 participants of the Atlantic 911 Ride, all in support of Project Playground.

We’d like to note that this organization played a key role in having a defibrillator purchased for SRS the last time they rode across PEI.

From motorcycles to emergency vehicles, it was an incredible sight to see the convoy roll through our community. We're grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event and appreciate the dedication and service of every first responder and emergency services member we met today.

Thank you for everything you do, and thank you for supporting our school community 🥰

🏍️🚓 The Atlantic 911 Ride is almost here! 🚒🚑

With just a few days to go until the Atlantic 911 Ride arrives in Souris, we wanted to share some photos and videos from previous rides to give you a glimpse of what to expect on Sunday.

A special thank you to long time Paramedic & Fire Fighter Robin Croucher for sharing these memories from past rides. He’s participated in the Atlantic 911 Ride on several occasions and will once again be part of this year's event, driving the Atlantic 911 Ride support vehicle.

If you've never seen the ride before, this is a great opportunity to experience it firsthand. From the motorcycles and emergency vehicles to the people behind them, there is something for all ages to enjoy.
