💜🏒 Looking back on a great winter with the Souris Minor Hockey Breakfast Club!

The Souris Elks were proud to help sponsor this Wednesday morning program, which gave local youth an opportunity to stay active, develop skills, and start their day with a warm breakfast.

Participants enjoyed workouts, on-ice practices, and time with teammates, while those not on the ice took part in board games, activities, and plenty of fun off-ice programming.

It’s always rewarding to support initiatives that bring young people together, encourage healthy lifestyles, and strengthen our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Breakfast Club a success. We look forward to supporting opportunities like this again in the future!

🧡 Supporting Local Families 🧡

Elks Lodge 21 is proud to donate 48 Child ID Kits to the Souris Daycare for the families they serve.

These kits are a valuable precautionary resource that allow parents to safely record important identifying information, including a recent photo, fingerprints, physical description, and a hair sample. In the event of an emergency, this information can be quickly provided to law enforcement to assist in a timely response.

While we hope these kits are never needed, we believe in providing families with tools that can offer peace of mind and help keep children safe.

This donation is another way the Elks continue to support children and families in our community. We care deeply about the well-being of local kids and are proud to help provide resources that promote safety and preparedness.

Thank you to the Souris Daycare for helping distribute these kits to their daycare families. 💙💛

🌸🎶 Did you guess it? 🎶🌸

If not, the surprise is officially taking shape! We’ve installed the first of four Tone Petal Flowers. Each flower produces its own unique musical tone, creating a fun and interactive way for children to explore sound, rhythm, and creativity through play.

The first flower was planted this morning, and the remaining three are on their way. Once they’re all in place, kids will be able to create their own outdoor melodies and enjoy a playground experience that sounds as fun as it looks!

We can’t wait to hear the music and laughter these flowers will bring to our community. Stay tuned as this project continues to bloom! 🌼🎵

đź’™ Investing in Our Youth and Community đź’™

Elks Lodge #21 was proud to present a cheque to Souris School to help cover 50% of the cost of swimming lessons for local students. We also provided funding for Newdale Colony students to participate in swimming lessons, helping more children gain valuable water safety skills, confidence, and lifelong lessons in and around the water.

Any remaining funds were donated to the Souris-Glenwood Parks & Recreation organization to purchase swimming lesson supplies, helping support local aquatic programs and ensuring children have the resources they need to learn and participate safely.

For nearly 100 years, Elks Lodge #21 has been dedicated to supporting youth, strengthening communities, and giving back where it matters most. We are proud to continue investing in opportunities that benefit local children and families and help make our community a better place for everyone.

Together, small acts of generosity create lasting impacts.

Did you know that Elks Lodge No. 21 is approaching an incredible milestone almost 100 years of serving our community?

For nearly a century, this dedicated group of volunteers has quietly been making a difference behind the scenes. From supporting local youth and families, funding community projects, sponsoring programs and events, helping organizations in need, and investing in the future of our town, the Elks have been proving year after year that small acts of service create a lasting impact.

The truth is, you probably don’t even know half of the amazing things this lodge has helped make possible over the decades. Many of the opportunities, programs, and community improvements we’ve enjoyed have had the support of people who simply chose to step up and lend a hand.

And that’s what makes the Elks so special not fancy titles or grand gestures, but neighbours helping neighbours.

As we look toward 100 years of community service, we’d love to see the next generation of volunteers get involved. You don’t need endless free time. Even committing to one event, one project, or a few volunteer hours each year can help keep the tradition alive and ensure our community continues to thrive.

So if you’ve ever wanted to give back, meet great people, share a few laughs, and be part of something bigger than yourself, this might be your sign. ❤️

Here’s to nearly a century of making good things happen and to the people who will help carry that legacy forward.

May is Mental Health Month đź’š

Today I want to recognize something truly meaningful in our community.

Elks Lodge #21 stepped up in a big way fully sponsoring and funding the Westman Wellness & Su***de Prevention Library at the Souris School in Souris, Manitoba. This wasn’t just a donation… it was a commitment to the mental well-being of our children and community.

This initiative was sparked by an incredible woman who is part of the Westman Mental Wellness & Su***de Prevention organization. Through her vision and with the support and funding from Elks Lodge #21 this project came to life right here in the Souris School library. It’s a powerful example of what can happen when community organizations come together with a shared purpose.

Together, they brought in resources for students from K–12 and beyond.

Over $4,500 in books were provided, along with access to online tools and supports. Students can sign out physical books, access digital content, or watch educational videos making mental health resources more accessible than ever.

Breakdown of resources:
• Early Years: 114 books
• Middle Years: 65 books
• Senior Years: 92 books
➡️ Total: 271 physical resources

And it doesn’t stop there…

Through the Mental Health Education Resource Centre (MHERC), there are over 3,000 additional titles available online including eBooks, audiobooks, and videos. This library is open to everyone, not just students.

Mental wellness and su***de prevention are not things we take lightly. Ensuring our children and our entire community have access to these tools is essential. Conversations, education, and resources save lives.

So grateful to Elks Lodge #21, Westman Mental Wellness & Su***de Prevention, and everyone involved in making this happen. This is how communities show up for each other.

We are proud to be a continuing sponsor of Camp Wannakumbac an incredible Manitoba summer camp that has been shaping unforgettable experiences for youth for over 75 years.

This 7-day, 6-night camp welcomes children ages 8–15 from all backgrounds, giving them the chance to explore, learn, and grow through activities like canoeing, arts & crafts, hiking, music, sports, and more. For youth 16+, the Counsellor in Training program helps build leadership skills and confidence that last far beyond the summer.

As a sponsor, the Elks are committed to making this experience accessible. Over the years, we have provided funding to help send local children to camp ensuring that more kids get the opportunity to enjoy a week filled with fun, friendship, and personal growth.

Each year, registration forms are sent out in February and collected by April 1. The Elks carefully review applications and select participants to support for this amazing week-long adventure.

Being part of something that creates lifelong memories and helps young people thrive is what community is all about and we are honoured to stand behind Camp Wannakumbac as one of its sponsors.

If you’re interested in applying or learning more, please connect with a local Elks member.

The Elks Lodge is proud to support the incredible work of the Souris Imagination Library 📚

This amazing book-gifting program provides a free monthly book to every registered child under the age of five, helping inspire a lifelong love of reading right from the start. Through its partnership with the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, children in our community have access to quality books that support early learning and development.

Their goal is simple but powerful: to register every child under five in our community. Early literacy builds the foundation for language skills, stronger families, and a more connected, thriving community. The impact reaches far beyond childhood supporting future education, well-being, and opportunity.

Programs like this rely on the generosity of the community and the success of local fundraisers to continue operating. That’s why the Elks Lodge is honoured to contribute and help keep this meaningful initiative going.

Supporting our children means investing in our future and this program brings lasting value to families across our community. đź’›
