Thank you to all the candidates for your care and dedication in your running.
Please see answers below from Shane.
I regret missing the opportunity to participate, answer questions from the community, and discuss the issues that matter to residents of Juan de Fuca–Malahat. I recognize the importance of these forums and appreciate the work that has gone into organizing tonight’s event.
1. Local Employment and Economic Opportunity
OneBC wants to make British Columbia a place where businesses can invest, expand and create jobs. We support lower taxes, less red tape and a stronger private sector. We need to support local businesses, tradespeople, forestry and resource industries to create good jobs and economic opportunity in our communities.
2. Housing, Growth and Infrastructure
Housing has become unaffordable for too many British Columbians. OneBC wants to reduce unnecessary regulations, lower the cost of building and encourage more housing construction. Growth must be supported by practical infrastructure planning and responsible spending.
3. Highway 14 and Transportation
Highway 14 is essential to our communities, workers and businesses. We need practical improvements, reliable transportation and infrastructure investment that reflects the needs of our growing region. As MLA, I would push for clear priorities, accountability and better value for taxpayers.
4. BC Ferries and the Island Economy
BC Ferries is an essential service for Vancouver Island residents, workers and businesses. It must operate efficiently, reliably and transparently, with careful management of both taxpayer and fare-payer dollars. OneBC supports better operational planning, improved scheduling and maintenance, and greater accountability for decisions affecting service.
5. Truth and Reconciliation
OneBC supports equality under the law, individual rights and democratic accountability. Our position is to repeal DRIPA and ensure decisions about land, resources and governance remain accountable to all British Columbians. We can address historical wrongs while protecting property rights, individual rights and the rule of law.
6. Civility and Public Trust
People are tired of politicians making promises without delivering results. I am not a career politician. I am a site supervisor and installer who understands responsibility, accountability and getting the job done. I believe in honest answers, transparent government and putting the interests of British Columbians first.
7. Public Safety
People deserve to feel safe in their communities. OneBC supports stronger accountability for repeat and violent offenders, better support for law enforcement and a shift toward treatment and recovery for people struggling with addiction. We need to protect communities while helping people find a path out of addiction.
The Question of where will the money come from??
OneBC believes we need to grow the economy, reduce waste and make government accountable for every taxpayer dollar. We need to review government spending, eliminate unnecessary regulations and prioritize essential services. Lower taxes and a stronger economy can encourage investment and job creation, while responsible budgeting helps restore fiscal accountability.
We cannot keep increasing spending and expect taxpayers to cover the bill indefinitely.
