The Kludahk Outdoors Club

The Kludahk Outdoors Club The Kludahk Outdoors Club (KOC) is a registered non-profit society and charitable organization based in Sooke, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island.

The KOC established a 4-season recreation corridor on the San Juan Ridge. The Kludahk Outdoors Club (KOC) with its strong volunteer ethic has already in 20 short years created a legacy of trails, base camps, canoe bases, huts and boardwalk on the San Juan Ridge. The KOC also promotes other educational and recreational outings in the Sooke/Port Renfrew area. The Board of Directors meets regularly t

hroughout the year and the membership meets annually. The AGM is held in the fall. The KOC has no paid staff. Volunteers take an active stewardship role to maintain the trail and huts. The success of our club and trail is due to a strong conciliatory approach adopted with our partners – both government and industry.

Tips for parking at the access roads: We’ve noticed an increase in vehicles parking directly at the entrance to the Meadow access road off Jordan Main. In some cases, the entrance has been completely blocked, which creates challenges for others trying to get through—especially those parked further up the road. It also poses a concern for emergency access. There are a couple of better parking options nearby that work well for small cars:

• Just before the Meadow access entrance, there’s an old logging road to the left that offers good space.

• A second option is just past the bridge on the access road, also on the left.

On all access roads, do not park in the turn-around areas. Turn your vehicle around so it is pointed back the way you came and park as far off the road as you can safely do to allow other vehicles to pass by you and turn around. If you park on the logging roads and your vehicle impedes logging truck access, it may be removed from the road.

Please keep these alternatives in mind for future visits. A little extra care and consideration with parking helps keep the area safe and accessible for everyone.

JdF SAR volunteers have had another busy year attending search and rescue calls between East Sooke and Port Renfrew as well as supporting our neighbouring SAR Teams when requested. We are grateful for the support of the CRD, the Province and community members.

Before heading out on your outdoor adventures over the holidays, remember the three T’s: Trip Planning, Training and Taking the Essentials. Check them out on AdventureSmart: https://www.adventuresmart.ca/the-three-ts/
