Registration is almost full for AHEIA’s 2026 Outdoor Women’s Program!

The Outdoor Women’s Program (OWP) began in 1994 with the intention of encouraging women to enjoy the great outdoors by providing opportunities to gain confidence, increase competence, acquire experience and promote personal growth in skills pertaining to the out of doors.

This program is not only educational but is an excellent way for women to come together and enjoy each other’s company at AHEIA’s beautiful Alford Lake facility each year in early August. The days at OWP are jam-packed with courses - from fly fishing to archery, canoeing, fi****ms basics to field dressing. OWP has something for every woman to learn and enjoy.

RCMP in Alberta are reminding motorists to take extra care when sharing the road with commercial vehicles. During June, officers will focus enforcement and education efforts on safe driving behaviours around large trucks and buses.

Commercial vehicles are significantly larger and heavier than passenger vehicles and require more time and distance to stop. Limited visibility and wide turning requirements can increase the risk of serious collisions when other drivers fail to adjust their behaviour.

Commercial vehicle safety tips:
• Large trucks have significant blind spots on all sides. If you cannot see the driver in their mirrors, they may not be able to see you.
• Leave extra space when following commercial vehicles, as they require longer stopping distances, particularly when fully loaded.
• Avoid cutting in front of trucks when changing lanes, which can force sudden braking and increase collision risk.
• Be aware that commercial vehicles often need to swing wide to complete turns safely.
• Pass only when safe and legal, and ensure you can see the entire vehicle in your rearview mirror before merging back into the lane.
