BC Wildfire Service has announced that effective at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Category 2 open burning will be prohibited across the entire Northwest Fire Centre.

In addition to Category 2 and Category 3 open fires, the following activities and use of equipment, materials and substances will also be prohibited:
- Air curtain burners
- Carbonizers
- Binary exploding targets
- Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC
- Burn barrels or burn cages of any size and description
- Controlled air incinerators

Bulkley ESS is proud to have teamed up with City of Prince Rupert ESS, Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine ESS, and City of Fort St. John ESS to form ESS Strike Team North and deploy to the City of Penticton’s Emergency Reception Centre.

Strike Team North is relieving two Bulkley ESS responders who have just completed a week-long deployment at the same Reception Centre and safely returned home today.

The team’s mission is to support evacuees while working alongside and supporting the many responders already on the ground. Across British Columbia, ESS teams have deployed to multiple communities and Reception Centres to assist those impacted by wildfire.

Emergency Support Services truly is one large family. When one community needs help, teams from across the province step forward to support one another—regardless of the distance.

We wish Strike Team North a safe and successful deployment and thank all of the ESS responders across British Columbia who continue to give their time in support of communities during times of need.

Bulkley ESS is proud to deploy Lt. Jex and Lt. Murray to support wildfire response efforts in the City of Penticton.

They will be joining the team at Penticton’s Emergency Reception Centre, helping provide support and assistance to those impacted by the ongoing wildfire situation.

We’re incredibly proud to see our members answering the call and bringing their experience, compassion, and dedication to support another community during a challenging time.

Bulkley Emergency Support Services has deployed to the City of Prince George to support evacuees impacted by the ongoing wildfires.

Working alongside the dedicated team from Vanderhoof ESS, Bulkley ESS has establishing and is managing a Group Lodging Centre to provide a safe, welcoming place for those who have been displaced from their homes.

Please see this important message regarding Evacuation Orders in the TNRD:

BC Wildfire Service first responders recently had to facilitate extracting someone from an Evacuation Order area when fire activity hindered their ability to leave and posed an immediate threat to them.

Evacuation Orders are issued to protect both the community and emergency responders in situations where there's a significant danger. These orders are not just for the safety of those in the affected zones but also for the firefighters and other personnel working to control the situation.

Receiving an Evacuation Order can be an unsettling and emotional experience. Evacuating a home is a difficult and emotional experience, and we understand that people may be reluctant to do so. However, choosing to remain in an area that is under an Evacuation Order puts yourself, your family and first responders in danger. It’s not worth the risk.

People who remain in an area that’s under an Evacuation Order may impede the ability of crews, as they may be pulled away from priority work to keep you out of harm’s way.

🐾 Does your pet have an emergency grab-and-go bag? 🐾

When an evacuation happens, your pets need to be just as prepared as you are. Having a grab-and-go bag ready can help keep them safe, comfortable, and reduce stress during an emergency.

🎒 Your pet’s emergency kit should include:
🐶 Food and water for at least 72 hours
💊 Any medications they need
🥣 Food and water bowls
🦮 Leash, harness, or carrier
📋 Vaccination records and identification
🧸 A favourite toy or comfort item
🧼 Waste bags or litter supplies

📦 Don’t forget their crate or carrier! Make sure it is the right size for your pet—they should be able to comfortably stand, turn around, and lie down inside. Ensure it is sturdy, secure, clearly labelled with your contact information, and easy to transport in case you need to leave quickly.

🐾 Prepare Today for Resilience Tomorrow.

BC Wildfire update

We are responding to multiple lightning caused wildfires throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre. Of these wildfires, three have been called Out, two are classified as Under Control and the remainder are Out of Control.

Five of the Out of Control fires are burning in the 100 Mile House Zone and two in the Chilcotin Zone are producing smoke that is highly visible to surrounding communities.

Fiftynine Creek Wildfire (C40897) is located approximately 54 kilometres southwest of 100 Mile House and approximately 4,000 hectares in size. This wildfire triggered an evacuation alert earlier in the day that is now an evacuation order as issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD). Big Bar and Meadow Lake roads are closed for public safety.

The Bowers Lake Wildfires (C40923) and C40930 are located approximately 48 kilometres east of 100 Mile and are approximately 120 hectares in size combined. These wildfires triggered an evacuation alert earlier in the day that is now an evacuation order as issued by the Cariboo Regional District (CRD).

The Tin Cup Wildfire (C40925) is located approximately 35 kilometres south of 100 Mile House and is approximately one hectare in size. This wildfire triggered an evacuation alert as issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD).

Wildfires C50927 and Lessard Lake Wildfire (C50929) are located approximately 60 kilometres north of Anahim Lake and are approximately 100 hectares in size combined. This wildfire triggered an evacuation alert as issued by the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) and Ulkatcho First Nation.

We ask that everyone in B.C. familiarize themselves with trusted sources of wildfire information and pay attention to local updates and alerts. Individuals in the vicinity of existing wildfires are encouraged to stay alert and aware of the current wildfire situation as wildfires are dynamic and conditions may change rapidly.

Early detection and public reporting is crucial when responding to new wildfire starts. To report signs of a wildfire, please call 1-800-663-5555 (toll-free), *5555 on a cellphone or submit a report directly through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app.

From the app, you can add georeferenced photos, allowing us to see exactly what you see on the ground and better inform resource deployment decisions.
