Our forest is managed by the community, for the community.

Wetzin'kwa is a community forest managed by the communities of Smithers, Telkwa, and Moricetown and for the benefit of our communities. The Wetzin’kwa Community Forest Corporation (WCFC) is responsible for managing the Community Forest tenure jointly held by the Town of Smithers and the Village of Telkwa. WCFC takes its name from the Wet’suwet’en word ‘Wetzin’Kwa’ which means “flowing blue green or clear waters” referring to the river flowing from Morice Lake to Hazelton. WCFC is committed to:
* involving the community
* working with the Wet’suwet’en people,
* land stewardship
* enhancing outdoor recreation and education
* a healthy community forest economy.

The Canyon Creek bridge crossing on the Dome Mountain trail is ready for year round use!

The Smithers Snowmobile Association would like to extend immense gratitude to Recreation Sites and Trails BC, the B.C. ORV Trail Fund, Wetzin'kwa Community Forest Corporation, and West Fraser Timber Co. for the generous financial/material contributions that made this large scale project a reality.

The bridge crossing could not have been completed without the hard work and dedication from Pacific North Coast Consulting Services, Evelyn Mountain Contracting Ltd., Ridgeback Consulting, West Point Rail & Timber Co, and Recreation Sites and Trails BC.

Congratulations once again and thanks for the good work you continue to do in our community! We look forward to seeing which artists you showcase this summer! ✨️

A big thank you to Wetzin'kwa Community Forest Corporation for providing Smithers Pride Society with $5,000 to help support our annual Pride event!

The funding was presented earlier in the summer, and now that we are beginning to plan for next year’s Pride, we want to highlight how important this support is. With fresh snow on the mountains, June 2027 may feel like a long ways away, but we are already booking artists for next year’s celebration.

This funding helps us get a head start and, most importantly, continue to put on a welcoming, inclusive and accessible Pride celebration for our community.

We are incredibly grateful to Wetzin'kwa Community Forest Corporation for investing in Smithers Pride and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Community support like this makes our work possible.

Congrats once again! And thank you for the incredible work you're doing to build community while keeping things out of the landfill. We're bringing some stuff in this weekend for sure. Keep it up! 🛠️

A big thank you to Wetzin'kwa Community Forest for providing the Bulkley Valley Tool Library with more than $900 to host a series of Repair Cafés and Tool Tinkering sessions this year!

This funding will help make it easier for people to learn repair skills and fix broken or well-loved items, giving them a second life instead of sending them to the landfill. Repair Cafés are a great way to foster connection and support a culture of reuse. It will also fund our tool tinkering sessions where volunteers fix tools that have been donated and need some love before they're entered into our inventory.

We’re excited to kick off the series with the first Repair Café at Reuse-a-palooza on Saturday, August 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.! See you there!
