🚨 NESA JAIL & BAIL FUNDRAISER 🚨
Tuesday, October 27, 2026 | Smithers, BC

You've been sentenced to support a great cause!

Local business owners, community members and familiar faces will be getting "arrested" for a good cause, and they'll need YOUR help to raise their bail!

Here's how it works:

🚔 The Arrest: Our volunteer Jail & Bail Crew will pick up participating community members and es**rt them to our mock jail.

🔒 The Sentence: Each participant will have a fundraising bail goal and will be encouraged to contact friends, family, coworkers and community members to help raise their bail.

💰 The Bail: Supporters can donate toward their favourite "prisoner's" bail, helping them reach their fundraising goal.

🎉 The Cause: All proceeds will support Northern Edge Sport Association’s facility expansion project, helping us create more space, improve accessibility and expand opportunities for children, youth, adults and seniors to participate in sport, fitness and recreation in our community.

Want to help bail someone out?

Donate online, in person or through one of our participating prisoners. When donating, please include the prisoner's name so we can credit their fundraising total.

It's all for fun, and it's all for a great cause!

*All arrests and jail activities are staged, voluntary and conducted by event volunteers. No actual law enforcement or detention is involved. Participants are free to leave at any time.

So amazing and exciting!!

So amazing and exciting!!

🎉 EXCITING NEWS FOR NORTHERN EDGE SPORT ASSOCIATION! 🎉

We are thrilled to announce that at the September 10, 2026, Board Meeting, the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako approved $250,000 in Community Works Fund funding through the Town of Smithers to support the Northern Edge Sport Association Phase Three Facility Expansion Project!

🔨 This significant investment will go directly toward construction costs for our planned expansion, helping us move one step closer to creating a larger, more accessible, and inclusive recreation facility for the Bulkley Valley.

The Community Works Fund is made available to local governments through the Government of Canada, supporting infrastructure projects that build stronger, healthier, and more sustainable communities.

👏 A heartfelt thank you to Director Stoney Stoltenberg and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako staff for their ongoing support and commitment to this project. Thank you to the Town of Smithers staff and council for submitting this application. We sincerely appreciate your continued collaboration and recognition of the importance of investing in accessible, year-round recreation opportunities for residents of the Bulkley Valley.

As a nonprofit organization, we are incredibly grateful for investments that help us continue building recreation opportunities for generations to come.

Together, we're building more than a facility — we're building opportunities for our community to grow, move, and thrive! 💙

We are excited to introduce another member of our dance instructor team...meet Piper Johns!
"Hi! My name is Piper, and I have been dancing for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to train in many styles, including ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, hip-hop, modern, and contemporary. I have also competed in dance, which has helped me grow not only as a dancer but also as a person. Dance has always been a huge part of my life, and I love the feeling of performing, challenging myself, and also learning new things.

This year, I am excited to share my passion for dance by teaching Intro to Dance, Jazz 1, Jazz 2, and Hip Hop 1. I am looking forward to working with younger dancers, helping them build confidence, learn new skills, and discover how much fun dance can be. I hope to create a positive and encouraging environment where every dancer feels comfortable being themselves and enjoys being a dancer!"

Piper is teaching:
Tuesdays Jazz Level One and Hip Hop Level One (Ages 5-7)
Wednesdays Jazz Level Two (Ages 8-11)
Fridays Intro to Dance (Ages 4-7)
There are still spaces available! Registration is open online www.northernedgesport.ca.

Meet Marie Battrum, the NESA Dance Coordinator!
"Dance has been a passion of mine since I was very little, and over the years I’ve had the opportunity to explore almost every style you can think of!

In 2015, I began training at Alberta Ballet School in their Dedicated Contemporary Stream under the directorship of Graham McKelvie, where I studied Classical Ballet and Martha Graham Technique. After graduating, I continued my pre-professional dance training in Vancouver before eventually moving to the Bulkley Valley and starting a family.

This fall, I’m excited to share my passion for dance by teaching Creative Movement and Levels 1–3 Ballet on Thursdays!
I’m thrilled to see the growth of dance programming at NESA. With expanded classes and age ranges giving more children in our community the opportunity to experience dance, movement, and all the joy that comes with it!"
Marie is teaching Thursdays:
Creative Movement (Ages 3-5)
Ballet Level One (Ages 5-7)
Ballet Level Two (Ages 8-11)
Ballet Level Three (Ages 12-14)
There are still limited spaces available, and registration is still open online www.northernedgesport.ca
