Are you looking for fun family event that combines Halloween fun and cool science? Join us for our annual Halloween at the BOOreal Centre on Saturday, Oct 31st. Drop by anytime from Noon to 3:00 pm and explore the amazing world of bats! This free event will have lots of hands-on fun for all ages and even a mysterious "bat cave" to explore. Although the rain and wind this weekend meant that we couldn't catch any owls for our visitors, we had a wonderful time at our Owl Nights! Thank you to everyone who helped out with the events: Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory, Lesser Slave Forest Education Society, Lesser Slave Watershed Council, Alberta Parks, and especially to all of our volunteers who travelled up for the weekend. And a very special thank you to Alberta Parks for providing the ice cream station!

With our busy weekend, the Boreal Centre will be closed Monday, Sept 28th, reopening again on Tuesday, Sept 29th

We spend the last few days sharing our Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory avian monitoring programs with students from Portage College. It was a great fieldtrip as we were able to capture a very late night Northern Saw-whet Owl for them plus some migratory songbirds at the LSLBO the next morning. It was a pleasure to work with such engaged students!

Note: All birds are handled by professionals and released unharmed as permitted by federal and provincial authorities.

Join us for a FUN OWL NIGHT tonight (Friday)! We still have some spots available for tonight so call 780-849-8240. Saturday night is full.

UPDATE: With the rainy forecast for tonight (friday) it looks like we might not be able to do any owl banding for you, but there will still be lots of fun activities planned for tonight including: Owl World presentation, Owl Jeopardy contest, Owl Pellet dissections, Owl Crafts, Owl Games and just hanging out around the firepit roasting marshmallows with your friends. A wonderful way to spend an evening!

Our Fall Owl Monitoring program has started up for the season, so that means it will soon be time for OWL NIGHTS! This year, we will be hosting our owl nights on Friday, Sept 25 and Saturday, Sept 26. We will kick things off at 8:30 pm with a special owl presentation, then there will have lots of hands-on owl activities for all ages. If we are lucky, you might get the chance to see a tiny Northern Saw-whet Owl that night! Space is limited and we are starting to fill up. So PRE-REGISTER soon!

The LSLBO has started up their Fall Owl Monitoring program, so that means it will soon be time for OWL NIGHTS! This year, we will be hosting our owl night programs on Friday, Sept 25 and Saturday, Sept 26. We will kick things off at 8:30 pm with a special owl presentation from our researchers. Autumn is here, so come out this long weekend for a visit before we switch over to our fall hours. After the long weekend, we will be closed on weekends except for special events. So we hope that you will head out for a visit this weekend, explore the beautiful trails and maybe even solve our Melvin the Moose Murder Mystery before we pack it up for the season. Thank you to all our visitors for a wonderful summer from everyone with the Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory and Alberta Parks!

SEEKING WALKMANS/MP3 PLAYERS. Do you have an old Walkman or mp3 player collecting dust in a drawer? The Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory will be starting up their Owl Fall Migration Monitoring program soon and they are seeking a few Walkman or mp3 players to run the audio lures on their new speaker system.
