The Solar Energy Demonstration Site at Northern Lakes College, Slave Lake, Alberta is funded by BP Canada, Pembina Pipelines, Encana, Penn West, and Shell Canada. Also supported by the Rotary Club of Slave Lake and Roland Michener Secondary School, this solar installation explores how producing solar power contributes to the grid. Funded for the most part by energy companies, this grid inter-tie s
ystem makes the college into a power producer, cutting down on energy bills. Assisted by expertise from the Solar Energy Society of Alberta, our local environment group, the Society of High Prairie Regional Environmental Action Committee has organized partnerships and raised funds for this project for the over three years. We produced three previous alternative energy demonstration sites, for the North Country School, Lesser Slave Regional Waste Management Facility, and Lesser Slave North Country Community Association. Our goal of inviting energy companies to participate in renewable energy is realized, with the Grand Opening at Northern Lakes College, Slave Lake, to take place on Earthday, 2014 (April 22)! BP Energy, Shell Environmental Fund, Pembina Pipelines, Encana, the Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre, and the Rotary Club of Slave Lake all contributed to making this Solar Energy Demonstration Site a reality.
