Laskeek Bay Conservation Society A community-based non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the conservation of marine & terrestrial ecosystems on Haida Gwaii.

We are a local, non-government organization undertaking long-term environmental monitoring, research, and environmental education. Throughout our field season from the end of April to the middle of July, volunteer "Citizen Scientists" assist our two staff biologists in carrying out the several research and monitoring programs based out of our field camp on East Limestone Island in Laskeek Bay, Haida Gwaii, BC.

Hello Birders of Haida Gwaii!
We are back, and so are the birds as migration is underway! The BC Coastal Waterbird Survey is here! Join us in monitoring the site around Spirit Square, and the many other citizen scientists that actively monitor over 200 sites in Canada.

Look for our email, facebook posts, and posters around town to know when the monthly survey will be! Weather dependent, it is every second Sunday of the month from now until spring, and will always be the same route around Spirit Square!
This month:
When: Sunday Sept 13 at 2pm
Where: Meet at the anchor sculpture at Spirit Square!

Here is a link to Bird Canadas resources for volunteers participating in this survey: https://www.birdscanada.org/bird-science/british-columbia-coastal-waterbird-survey/bccws_resources

Children must have an adult with them, and a PFD is a good idea as we will be doing part of the survey on the dock!
Watch the weather and dress for it!

As always we will have binos, a scope, and tons of citizen science fun! Looking forward to seeing you there πŸ™‚
