The Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) provides advisory services to its member of five First Nations, Whitesand First Nation, Lac Seul First Nation, Muskrat Dam First Nation, Pikangikum First Nation, and Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug. The First Nation Chiefs Council provides policy and direction to the IFNA organization, in the areas of Education, Economic Development, Technical Services, Financial Management, and Governance.

IFNA’s Reclaiming Our Bundle program continues to explore what a future Indigenous Midwifery Program serving IFNA Member Nations could look like.

We’re seeking expressions of interest from Midwives, Maternal-Child Care Providers, Elders/Aunties, Traditional Educators, and others with experience providing care in Indigenous communities.

If you’re interested in being part of this conversation, we want to hear from you. The Expression of Interest Survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete, and your input will help inform early planning for the program.

Yesterday, during our quarterly Chiefs Meeting, IFNA leadership and Elders had the opportunity to see two new 4x4 ambula...

Yesterday, during our quarterly Chiefs Meeting, IFNA leadership and Elders had the opportunity to see two new 4x4 ambulances that will soon make their way to Pikangikum First Nation. We were also grateful to have Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler join us to see the new units and share in this important moment.

Through the continued work of IFNA Emergency Services and our paramedic leadership team, IFNA EMS is now a fully certified ambulance service. These first 4x4 units are scheduled to go to the Pikangikum base, with planning now underway for other IFNA communities that have requested support.
4x4 ambulances are uncommon, and in remote First Nation communities, having vehicles that are better equipped for northern roads and challenging conditions can make a significant difference in emergency response.

This milestone has been years in the making, built through continued work and collaboration with communities. We’re proud of how far this work has come and what it will mean for emergency response across IFNA member Nations.

Indigenous Milk Medicine Week celebrates the sacred practices that have nourished and sustained families across generations. Within IFNA member Nations, breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and milk sharing are about more than nourishment, they are connected to ceremony, kinship, and reclaiming our bundles.

This week, we honour the Elders, Midwives, Aunties, and Knowledge Holders who carry this knowledge forward and are helping restore traditional birth and infant feeding practices throughout our communities.
