Independent First Nations Alliance Helping IFNA First Nations advance their priorities and develop healthy, sustainable communities.

The Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) provides advisory services to its member of five First Nations, Whitesand First Nation, Lac Seul First Nation, Muskrat Dam First Nation, Pikangikum First Nation, and Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug. The First Nation Chiefs Council provides policy and direction to the IFNA organization, in the areas of Education, Economic Development, Technical Services, Financial Management, and Governance.

Food security is about more than access to food. It's also about having the resources, knowledge, and opportunities to provide for your community.

This World Food Day, we're highlighting Lac Seul First Nation's Wap-Shki-Pi-Nay-Quay-Nay Project and its efforts to strengthen food sovereignty and community self-sufficiency.

With plans for a community food bank, increased access to harvesting equipment, and opportunities to pass traditional knowledge on to younger generations, the project is helping strengthen connections to food, culture, and the land.

From September 14–19, members of IFNA Regional Fire Rescue attended FireCon, taking part in six days of training, education, professional development, and connection with fire service personnel from across Northwestern Ontario.

Opportunities like FireCon allow the team to continue building their skills, exchanging knowledge with others in the field, and strengthening the experience and capacity they bring to emergency response and community protection in IFNA member Nations.
