Today we say goodbye to Billy, who passed away on May 13th, 2025, at the age of 90.
Billy dedicated his life to serving his community and protecting the salmon that sustain it. Every summer, he generously and voluntarily gave his time to guide visitors through his museum — a remarkable collection of items he gathered while beachcombing. Through these efforts, he raised enough funds to support vital salmon enhancement projects in the area, including the successful hatchery in Scott Cove and many local spawning gravel projects.
Billy was at the helm of MESSS for many years and remained fully involved — always as a volunteer — right up until his passing. To say he will be missed is an understatement. His leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to stewardship have left an indelible mark on all of us in and around Echo Bay and beyond.
Thank you, Billy, for showing us what true, selfless stewardship looks like. Your legacy will live on in the rivers, the salmon, and the hearts of the countless people you inspired.
