Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank We service the Saanich Peninsula relying solely on the generosity of the community. The Saanich Penin

The Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank "Helps those in need through those who care." We do that in a variety of ways but primarily by providing a food hamper designed to supplement a client's food needs. The Food Bank has been operating since 1984 to help those hurt by a downturn in the economy. Since our modest beginnings we have helped thousands of people. The Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank is a non-profit, charitable organization run by a board of directors. The Board oversees the Executive Director, staff, and volunteers who run the day-to-day operations of the food bank.

Bring your superheroes, ghosts, fairies, monsters, etc., to trick or treat under the sea while supporting two local causes—The New Marine Centre Society and Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank. There will be pumpkins, there will be darkness, there will be eerie (but not TOO scary!) displays. This is the event you don’t want to miss!

Time: 4:30PM-8:00PM (last entry 7:30PM)

Our new friends at Thatch Creek Farm just stopped by to share their abundance with us at the food bank! We can’t wait to share these beautiful carrots and zucchini with the community too. Thank you, Rob and Lesley!

Visiting our friends Campion Farm this week and all their cute new piglets. All our food waste that is deemed unfit for human consumption from our food recovery programs is diverted to local farms like this to feed their animal. These partnerships with local farmers ensures we have zero food waste at our food bank.

These donations were a blast from the past… and we mean way in the past. 😅

While it’s always interesting to see products from decades gone by, they’re not something we can distribute through the food bank. Unfortunately, items that are 20–30 years past their best before date have to be composted or thrown away.

A few months past a best before date is often okay, but there’s a big difference between a few months and a few decades.

When donating, please ask yourself: Would I feed this to my own family? The people who rely on our food bank deserve the same dignity and quality that all of us expect when shopping for groceries.

Thank you for helping us keep our shelves stocked with safe, usable food for our community. ❤️

Our food bank has been blessed by the continued support of local farmers with the bounty of their harvest. Independent farms like Gavin’s Greens and Herbs and Paulz Farm keep our produce shelves stocked year round with healthy and nutritious fruits and veggies for all who access our services on the Saanich Peninsula.

Overwhelmed by the generosity from The Kensington and Oakwood Manor Optima Living - Retirement Residences who filled our bins and van with donations this month. Combined they had nearly 2000lbs of food and $800 in monetary donations!

Thank you. Our hearts—and our shelves—are full thanks to the generosity of our community.

2025 brought its share of ups and downs, but one thing never wavered: you showed up when we needed it most. From kind words and grocery store donations, to school fundraisers, to celebrating our 40th birthday with us—every gesture has meant the world to those who rely on our services.

As we rest and reflect on the season with our families, we’re deeply grateful and excited to continue this journey with you in the new year.

Please note: we will be closed from December 24 through January 5.
