Last night we kicked things off with plenty of smiles as volunteers from the Cycling Without Age Society offered Triobike rides outside the entrance. It was a fun way to begin the evening and a wonderful reminder of the impact this organization has in our community.

While the votes were being tallied, Bill Brooks, President of Cycling Without Age Society, shared what our last donation meant to their group.

"This is our largest donation ever and it's life changing," said Bill. "It's not just the money, it's the trust you have in us. That trust gives us the flexibility to respond to needs as they arise."

Our donation will help fund a new bike storage C-can near Deep Cove Elementary, ongoing preventative bike maintenance, and watch for a brand new Tri-shaw proudly logoed with 100+ Women Who Care Saanich Peninsula.

Several heartwarming stories were shared, including a gentleman living with dementia who loves to ride and who can go from confusions to smiles by simply seeing his photo of himself in the triobike, and a neurodivergent teenager who has loved these rides since he was young.

Through Cycling Without Age, riders reconnect with their community, enjoy the beauty around them, and have the opportunity to share special memories.

Because truly, everyone deserves the joy of a bike ride. 🚲💙

Last week we welcomed Rebecka Ibbotson, Fund Development Coordinator with the Children's Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, as our guest speaker, and winner of our Fall donation. Many of us had an “aha!” moment when she reminded us the organization was formerly the Queen Alexandra Foundation — a name we definitely recognized!

Rebecka shared the Foundation’s inspiring history, founded nearly 100 years ago by women who saw the need for better children’s health care. In 2027, they’ll celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Our donation went directly to their Bear Essentials program, which fills the gaps where health care ends — supporting families with travel costs, accommodations, specialized equipment, and more.

Rebecka shared with us powerful stories of local families whose lives have been changed through Bear Essentials:

💙 Jax, a 13-year-old from Sidney with cerebral palsy and autism, received a transfer belt and specialized walker that helped him gain new mobility and independence — even learning to navigate stairs at school.

💙 Roland, whose coordination challenges led to a serious head injury, discovered an adaptive tricycle that changed everything. Thanks to Bear Essentials, he now has one at home that helps him stay active, safe, and confident outdoors.

Rebecka closed by thanking all our members, not just on behalf of the Foundation, but for the impact 100+ Women Who Care Saanich Peninsula continues to make across our community.

We are so grateful for the difference you make. 💛

What a wonderful night! Our Christmas Meeting brought together more than 175 women for an evening filled with sparkle, community, and some truly delicious treats from Fox & Monocle. A heartfelt thank-you to Judy Tidman, Roberta Williston, Jane Batty, and Jim O’Brien (Manulife) for sponsoring the festive cheer to the evening.

This was our 44th meeting, and we’re thrilled to share that our membership has grown to 236 women! When we gather again on March 4, 2026, we’ll be celebrating 11 years since this incredible journey began. Together, we’ve supported 44 local charities with more than $750,000. That's an amazing milestone we can all be proud of.

This meeting’s nominated charities were:
• Cycling without Age Society – Sidney (Brenda Houston)
• ORCCA (Marlene Dergousoff)
• Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea (Laura Davis)

Congratulations to Brenda Houston and Cycling Without Age Cycling Without Age Society for her inspiring AND winning presentation. We’re excited to hear more this spring.

We also enjoyed a wonderful update from the Children's Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, who shared how your most recent donation has made a meaningful difference. A full recap is coming next week!

Wishing you all a joyful holiday season! We’ll see you in the spring 💙
