🎣☀️ What a fantastic day at Kids Can Catch – Fort Saskatchewan!

The sun is shining, the fish are biting, and the kids are smiling. There’s nothing better than seeing families enjoying the outdoors and making memories together at the pond.

It’s a beautiful day to be in Fort Saskatchewan, and we’re thrilled to see so many young anglers discovering the fun of fishing.

Thanks to all of our volunteers, partners, and participants for helping make today such a success. 🎣🐟

🪶 Feather Friday (Saturday!) Update

Another week of activity has unfolded on our wildlife cameras.

Ferruginous Hawks
Conditions remain largely unchanged at the ferruginous hawk nests, with chicks continuing to develop and become more active.

Peregrine Falcons
• Bell Tower: Two eggs successfully hatched this season.
• U of A (pictured): All four chicks hatched within a 24-hour period—a remarkable burst of activity.
• Shell Scotford: Incubation continues.

Wildlife cameras provide a unique opportunity to observe the many stages of nesting season, from incubation and hatching to chick development.

Another successful season is in the books for ACA’s Mobile Walleye Hatchery at Travers Reservoir!

Our second year operating the mobile hatchery was a success thanks to the dedication of staff and partners who put in countless hours—early mornings, late nights, long days in the weather, and even battling ticks—to help make this project possible.

📊 2026 by the numbers:
• Total eggs incubated (May 12): 2,360,606
• Fry estimate at stock-out (June 2): 1,809,953 fry
• Egg-to-fry success rate: 76%

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to another successful season. Your hard work is helping support Alberta’s fisheries for years to come.

🪶 Feather Friday Update

This week brought both encouraging and difficult developments on our wildlife cameras.

Ferruginous Hawks
Nests 1 and 2 are unchanged and appear to be progressing well. However, the chicks are currently not visible at Nest 3. They may have been affected by the recent adverse weather event.

Peregrine Falcons
Good news at Bell Tower! The first hatchling has arrived. The adult was also captured bringing food back to the nest (pictured). The remaining peregrine falcon nests appear unchanged.

Wildlife monitoring provides a real-time look at both the successes and challenges of nesting season. Follow along as the season continues to unfold.
