Service to Others

The Elks are recognized for their service to children with hearing impairments through their national charity, Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children. National Charity

The National Charity of the Elks of Canada was founded in 1956 as the Elks Purple Cross Fund. In 1998 the name was changed to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children. The Fund has been extremely effective in

personal assistance to individual children (to the age of 19) with special needs and developing and supporting ongoing clinical programs across Canada in the area of speech, hearing and communication disorders. The quality of life that many children, and in some cases, whole communities enjoy can be either directly or partly attributed to projects funded through the backbone of the Elks – our local Lodges. Each year the Elks provide over $15 million through ongoing local, provincial, and national programs. Lodges are our Strength

Our Lodges are the strength of the Elks of Canada. Our charitable activity starts at the local Lodge level with fundraisers, community projects and a host of other activities. And the purpose of all this effort is to simply make our communities a better place to live. That’s what the Elks do.

Very proud members of Sherwood Park Elks assisting with BGC BBQ
The Sherwood Park Elks took part in a community barbecue to support the Boys and Girls Club (BGC), demonstrating a strong commitment to local youth and neighborhood well-being. Members of the BGC arrived early to set up tents, arrange tables and chairs, and prepare the cooking area. Their coordinated effort ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish.
Sherwood Park Elks roles included grilling, serving food, managing the refreshment station, and handling clean-up at the end of the day. Several members focused on safety and food handling, ensuring that all meals were prepared and served according to health guidelines. Others organized games and crafts to engage younger attendees, creating a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere.
The presence of the Elks added an element of community pride. They promoted the BGC’s mission, shared information about upcoming programs, and connected families with resources and volunteer opportunities.
Looking ahead, the Sherwood Park Elks plan to maintain their support for BGC through periodic events and fundraising collaborations. Continued engagement will strengthen ties between the organizations and help expand opportunities for local youth, reinforcing a culture of service and civic responsibility within Sherwood Park.

We'd like to thank the Sherwood Park Elks for fixing up our booths in the CanTeen Youth Hub.

Projects like these help us create a welcoming and functional space for our youth to hang out, do their homework and feel supported.

Thank you for continuing to make an impact on children and youth in Strathcona County!
