The Osprey nest that was built last year on the barge at the Marina wharf had to be removed so the barge could be moved. Our group consulted with a Department of Natural Resources biologist for advice on how and when to remove the nest. We were given directions on how to do this. The goal was to relocate at least part of the nest to a nearby site so that when the Osprey return this spring, they can build there. The chosen relocation site was a platform atop a pole on Pool Road, installed by Nova Scotia Power.

R J MacIsaac undertook the task of relocating the nest. On Monday, March 30 th, their crew prepped the site for the nest removal. On Tuesday, March 31 st, their crew, along with a crane from RD Cranes, arrived on scene and expertly took the entire nest and its base, installed it and secured it to the platform on top of the pole on Pool Road.

The crews from R J MacIsaac and the crane operator from RD Cranes deserve a lot of credit for the skills they demonstrated in carefully and efficiently relocating this nest. Also, a big thank you goes out to wildlife biologist Shavonne Meyer for her advice and guidance on how to complete this operation.
