THANK YOU TO ALL FRIENDS WHO VOTED:
We will soon have a new council for Shediac who will hopefully decide that Shediac finally deserves an access to water. We want to thank Emile O’Brien and Peter Breau who unfortunately did not get reelected even though they were staunch supporters of our cause.

Friends,
If you haven’t exercised your privilege to vote yet, please do! If you want changes in the priorities for our town and you don’t vote, then you shouldn’t complain to me about what happens in the next four years.

Gerry and I are hopeful that the new « mairesse » will take our town out of the « more apartments » phase and into the « build infrastructure » and « provide services » stage. A good blend of existing and new council members is critical to its success.

Well friends, the deadline of April 10th has come and gone. We have received letters of intent from both the “land owner” and the town of Shediac. They want to see our paperwork! Once they receive that from our own lawyer, we will know if we’re going to court or not. Please stay tuned for updates as we move towards an end to this long hard battle for citizens rights.

Mes amis, la date limite du 10 avril pour réagir est venue et passée. Nos avons reçu des demandes des deux parties prenantes qu’ils veulent voir notre preuve. Une fois reçu, nous saurons si nous allons en court ou non. Merci de rester avec nous en attendant qu’on approche la fin de cette longue bataille pour rétablir les droits des citoyens.

The town of Shediac has confirmed receipt of our legal documents yesterday. On October 22, 2024, the town council had indicated with a motion at point 15.1 that they considered this matter closed because their lawyer had advised that their search of the deed was inconclusive. Our documents provided yesterday should give council and their lawyer, conclusive evidence that the parcel belongs to the citizens of Shediac and not to their employee. They now have 30 days to respond.

Well friends, I know I’ve said this before but we’re “almost ready”. We should be delivering papers to the town of Shediac and to the supposed land owners some time next week. We are waiting patiently for the lawyer to send the paperwork and publish our request in the Gazette and the Times Transcript.

Then we can deposit our petition at the next town meeting showing that this is not only one individual but over 400 signees who are asking for the town to do the right thing for their citizens.

Thank you ALL for your patience as we moved through the legal process, reminding our lawyer multiple times along the way that we were still waiting for ACTION.

UPDATE: The paperwork is slowly (very slowly) starting to come in. We should be sending the papers to the town of Shediac and the supposed property owners within the next week.

It’s already a week past the Friday we were supposed to have the final paperwork sent to the supposed owners and the actual owners and we still have nothing from our lawyer. Given that this is Christmas week, I will guess that we won’t be sending them the legal documents until the new year.

Therefore, this will be our last post in 2025, and the executive of Friends of Riverside Park-Webster Park would like to take this opportunity to thank you ALL again for your continued support and wish you all the best for this holiday season. Joyeux Noël, Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad. May 2026 be the new beginning we are all seeking. And may it bring Peace above all else.

Please keep us in your thoughts of peace this festive season.

The paperwork is slowly coming in. We received the Abstract of Title which is a rather long legal document explaining why all the properties exist, the history of provenance for each piece (described in each deed) and where they all come together into the property given to citizens by Clarence Webster in 1962. I have been reading through it and am satisfied that if I can understand it, their lawyer will understand it too.

We are just waiting on a few more pieces which we are told will be ready at the end of this week. Then we will be ready to deliver our case to the Town of Shediac and the supposed owners. They will all have 30 days to respond and if they disagree with our findings we go to court.

I’m not worried about the “owners” and hopefully with elections on the horizon we’re thinking that the Town will finally accept our findings, which they had deemed inconclusive last spring. If they do, I hope we will be informed of how the Town will now maintain “our” land.

Just a short update to say that we are still waiting for the lawyer to complete and deposit the documents with the town and land owner before we can send them to the courts. We are trying to move this along but are getting a bit frustrated at the delays.

Well folks, we’re almost at the finish line! Going in to sign some paperwork today so that the legal process can be set in motion.
