Tierramigo is joining us in Canada 🇨🇦 at OUR Ecovillage! 💫 as part of an exciting new collaboration. Join us for a unique theoretical and hands-on cob workshop. In this 3-week intensive experience, we will build a complete cob composting toilet added to an existing cob structure - from stone foundations all the way to the living roof!
Royal Roads University is pleased to offer this course in partnership with OUR Ecovillage to host Tierramigo.
Royal Roads University and O.U.R. Ecovillage are thrilled to announce an exciting partnership bringing together two of Vancouver Island's most forward-thinking institutions in sustainable education. Together, we are offering a series of immersive, hands-on programs rooted in ecological design, Indigenous ways of knowing, and regenerative community building. Set on O.U.R. Ecovillage's remarkable 25-acre Sustainable Living Demonstration, Research and Education Centre, these courses combine Royal Roads University's commitment to transformative, applied learning with O.U.R. Ecovillage's decades of experience in Permaculture education and natural building.
Whether you are new to Permaculture or ready to pursue full certification, or eager to develop practical natural building skills, this collaborative program offers a truly unique opportunity to learn, connect, and take meaningful action in a time when it matters most.
The Weekly Breakdown:
Week 1: We will focus on stone foundations and begin shaping the cob walls.
Week 2: We’ll bring the structure to life: completing the walls, integrating windows and doors, sculpting shelves and niches, and building a beautiful green roof.
Week 3: Our Art & Mud Week, dedicated to creative expression: sculptural work, earthen and lime plasters, and refining finishes to elevate both function and beauty.
Through this immersive process, you’ll gain the knowledge and practical skills to build your own cob structure from the ground up. The workshop is designed with a balance of 70% hands-on practice and 30% theory, covering essential topics such as:
-Cob wall techniques
-Stone foundation principles
-Benefits of earthen building
-Soil testing
-How to prepare and apply earthen and lime plasters
-How to sculpt with cob, and much more!
During your stay, you’ll be immersed in a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere at OUR Ecovillage. Alongside our course, a full Permaculture Design Course will be taking place, bringing together a diverse group of passionate learners and practitioners.
